Apart from Vicky Kaushal's Uri: The Surgical Strike, none of the films released in January so far have managed to get cash registers ringing including Emraan Hashmi's latest outing Why Cheat India. While the talented actor's performance has been lauded by the critics, the film, it seems hasn't struck a chord with the audiences at the cinema halls. After getting off to a disastrous start on Friday, day 1, Why Cheat India did slightly better over the weekend but the figures are still very low considering there was a good amount of buzz around the Soumik Sen directorial. Why Cheat India Box Office Collection Day 1: Emraan Hashmi Starrer Off to a Dull Start, Rakes in Rs 1.71 Crore.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to microblogging site Twitter and announced the updated figures of the film. He wrote, "#WhyCheatIndia cuts a sorry picture... Witnessed [minimal] growth after a lackluster start, but not enough to salvage the situation... Fri 1.71 cr, Sat 2.45 cr, Sun 2.64 cr. Total: ₹ 6.80 cr. India biz."

As per BoxOfficeIndia.com, the opening weekend collection of Why Cheat India is one of the lowest for an Emraan Hashmi film in recent years. The report further stated, "There is really no hope for the film barring playing the week out with steady collections at low levels."

Apart from Why Cheat India, Arshad Warsi starrer Fraud Saiyaan, Govinda's Rangeela Raja and Radhika Apte's Bombairiya also hit the theatres on Friday, January 18. However, none of the films have done even decent business at the Indian box office. Plus, with Uri still minting big money at the ticket windows, it seems impossible that these new releases will survive for long in the cinema halls. Uri: The Surgical Strike Box Office Collection Day 10: Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam Starrer Enters the Rs 100 Crore Club.
