Emraan Hashmi's much-awaited film Why Cheat India, directed by Soumik Sen, has finally hit the theatres but sadly the film hasn't witnessed a good opening. Though Why Cheat India has garnered decent reviews from the critics and Emraan's performance has been lauded, the film it seems hasn't impressed the audience big time. After opening to 5% occupancy during morning shows on day 1, Friday, Why Cheat India ended up minting merely Rs 1.71 crore at the Indian box office which is highly disappointing as the film had created a good buzz in general. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to microblogging site Twitter a while back and revealed the figures. He tweeted, "#WhyCheatIndia is a non-starter... Needs miraculous growth over the weekend to post a decent total... Fri ₹ 1.71 cr. India biz."
Further, a report in BoxOfficeIndia.com stated, "Why Cheat India was basically a solo release as the other new releases had no awareness but Uri is actually behaving like a new release in its second week as the audiences flock to see the film. Why Cheat India cannot really go anywhere from such a low start." Why Cheat India Movie Review: Emraan Hashmi and Shreya Dhanwanthary Empower This Scathing Morality Tale With Fine Performances.
Apart from Emraan's film, Arshad Warsi starrer Fraud Saiyaan, Govinda's Rangeela Raja and Radhika Apte's Bambariya also released on Friday, January 18. But none of them, it seems, succeeded in drawing the crowd to the cinema halls. With Uri: The Surgical Strike currently ruling the box office, Why Cheat India and other films will indeed have a tough time to even go past the two-digit fugures at the Indian BO.
