Mumbai, June 1: Sonu Jalan, a bookie arrested in the 2012 Indian Premier League (IPL) betting scandal has named actor Arbaaz Khan in the IPL betting case. Arbaaz Khan will appear before the Thane police tomorrow in connection to the betting scam. Thane police had summoned the actor on Friday afternoon but Arbaaz has said that he will appear before police on Saturday.
A betting racket was recently busted by Mumbai police and bookie Sonu Jalan, on whose confession the police has summoned Arbaaz, was arrested in the case by police. Sonu Jalan is a bookie whose name has repeatedly been in fixing cases and betting circles. According to reports coming in, the bookie has connections with the fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
After bookie Sonu Jalan was arrested and probed by Thane police, he named actor Arbaaz Khan in the IPL betting scam. According to Jalan, Arbaaz has been involved in the betting and had even introduced him to several people in Bollywood. Bookie Jalan has also claimed that he knows several people in Bollywood. Jalan was also arrested by police in 2008 in connection to IPL betting.
The police and media have also found pictures of Arbaaz with Sonu Jalan. According to CNN News18, Jalan has also said that he introduced Arbaaz to businessmen in Pakistan. The police has also informed that bookie Jalan had been blackmailing Arbaaz for the payment of due of Rs 3 crores which Arbaaz owed to Jalan.
Reports say that Jalan has accepted that he was involved in fixing a few matches in the past. He has claimed to have played a role in fixing matches in the 2016 edition of the IPL. However, no information has been given on whether any malpractice was committed in the recently concluded IPL 2018 games.
