Director and CBFC member Vivek Agnihotri is known for his right-wing leanings and also for his controversial statements. The film-maker is often seen engaging in debates with other Twitter users, whom he usually calls secular over various social issues. His recent target has been Bollywood actresses' campaign against the injustice meted out to Kathua and Unnao rape victims.
Actresses like Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhasker, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Shruti Seth posted pictures of theirs with placards that read, "I am Hindustan. I am Ashamed. #JusticeForOurChild. 8 years old. Gangraped. Murdered. In 'Devi'-sthaan temple. #Kathua". It is against this campaign that Mr Agnihotri has an opinion to say and it is not exactly nice.
He tweeted out, "It's good to see film heroines holding placards to make a point on Kathua tragedy. I wish they also hold a placard against the sexual exploitation of women in Bollywood. I wish they also refuse to do roles that portray heroines only as sex objects and dumb bimbos. Can they?" What he says does make sense as Bollywood heroines have often by requested by women empowerment campaigns to stop indulging into senseless skin shows and crass item songs, aimed only to titillate male audience.
It’s good to see film heroines holding placards to make a point on #Kathua tragedy.
I wish they also hold a placard against the sexual exploitation of women in Bollywood.
I wish they also refuse to do roles that portray heroines only as sex objects and dumb bimbos.
Can they?

But then Mr Agnihotri seems to have forgotten that old saying, 'those who live in glass houses, don't throw stones at others'. Here is a director who has made movies like Chocolate, Hate Story and Zid, and none of these movies are about protecting the integrity of women, something Twitter reminded him. Check out a few tweets below!
That's a burn!

Perhaps, in his eyes, she is!
Vivek Agnihotri be like: That's not a 'sex object'. That's an EMPOWERED woman. https://t.co/RejMJVNv2v

An advice worth following!
Also nice if men were to stop sexually harassing women and stop making movies that portray women as objects. Also, nicer if men hold placards instead of asking women to do so. https://t.co/tvwUeLeZa7

Well, we didn't expect Swara Bhasker to be quiet!
I wish men would stop making social media yet another platform to tell women what to do! #serialmansplainer #rapeapologist https://t.co/QvFY4Dn9W6

A little introspection is always good!
"HATE STORY" & "ZID" were the films you directed if you remember and you say women should hold a placard against sexual exploitation?
Before making a statement just see what you have done SIR. https://t.co/EdoaixVrLW

Not sure if Vivek Agnihotri is bothered with the trolling in his name. And we can expect more such gems from the director in future.
