So it's official! Last year's top Indian movie according to IMDB, the Tamil thriller Vikram Vedha is getting the remake treatment in Bollywood. Reliance Entertainment, Plan C Studios (head by Neeraj Pandey) and Y Not Studios are producing the movie, while Pushkar and Gayatri have been retained as the directors. Which is definitely good news! However, the makers have not yet revealed who would be playing the lead roles. But we have some recommendations!
Before we get to that, let's give you a brief as to what the story is all about if you have not seen the movie. So there is Vikram (R Madhavan), a brilliant, hard-nosed cop who wants to catch Vedha (Sethupathi), a cunning gangster. However, before he does so, Vedha himself surrenders to Vikram and during the interrogation, tell him a story from the past. The whole movie later plays like an episode of a Bikram-Betaal episode.
Now that we have told you what the movie is all about, here are some suggestions that we want to have in the upcoming movie.
R. Madhavan - Shah Rukh Khan
When the talks about the Hindi remake first came out, there were speculations that R Madhavan wanted to be in the remake as well. And Shah Rukh Khan wanted to do the gangster role. Though I don't believe this is happening now, the casting looked a super awesome idea then. Thanks to Don series and Raees, we know SRK can crack empathetic menace with ease!
Ajay Devgn - Akshay Kumar
Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar have done quite a few movies together, most notable being Khakee and Insaan. Though it is believed that they are at loggerheads over their upcoming and conflicting takes on Battle of Saragarhi, Vikram Vedha could be a good movie to bring them back together. Ajay Devgn could do that straight-faced cop with ease, while Akshay Kumar can bring his Ajnabee villainy into the Vedha act.
Dulquer Salmaan - Irrfan Khan
Dulquer Salmaan has already signed two Bollywood movies by now, and he has garnered quite the following here even without a single release. He has never donned the uniform before (though he played a newly recruited IPS officer in Malayalam movie Vikramadithyan), so he is our pick for the Vikram role. As for Vedha's role, why not his Karwaan costar Irrfan Khan? We have seen in enough movies that he can take on negative roles with immaculate ease and turn them into winning performances.
Rajkummar Rao - Nawazuddin Siddiqui
Both Rajkummar Rao and Nawazuddin Siddiqui have worked together in Gangs of Wasseypur Part II and Talaash. Why not have a chance to make them come together for this one? Rajkummar Rao, in his finest form right now, can bring a layered performance as the cop, while Nawazuddin's chameleonic range is indubitably apt for the story-telling Vedha.
Randeep Hooda - Prabhas
This could be the most left-handed suggestion we have. Prabhas is looking for the right movie to make his Bollywood launch, so why not take on this scene-stealing role of vedha? Randeep Hooda, who is a scene-stealer in his own right could do well as Vikram, having played cops in movies like Once Upon In Mumbai, Jannat 2, Kick etc.
So which of these bove jodis do you prefer in the Vikram Vedha remake? Give a shout out to us in the comments section below.
