Vijay 69, starring Anupam Kher, Chunky Pandey and Mihir Ahuja, was released on Netflix today (November 8). Directed by Akshay Roy, the film tells the story of a quirky slice-of-life journey where a 69-year-old man decides to take on a triathlon challenge, defying age and expectations. Anupam Kher plays the lead role in this heartwarming and humorous narrative, exploring themes of determination, resilience and self-discovery. While the film has received mixed reviews, many critics have praised the performances, particularly Kher’s portrayal, but some have expressed reservations about the storyline. Here’s a roundup of the film's reviews. ‘Vijay 69’: From Movie to the Lyrics, All You Need To Know About ‘Aage Bhi Jane Na Tu’ Song That Is Prominently Featured in Anupam Kher’s Netflix Movie (Watch Video).

India Today: "In pursuit of the noble message that 'age is just a number' when it comes to living life on your own terms and fulfilling your dreams, Akshay Roy fails to realise that telling the story of this oft-neglected section of society requires a fresh approach. A scene with the elderly man reaching the finish line, arms and legs flailing, is not enough to show his struggles—we've seen this A LOT."

The Indian Express: "Kher himself, the reason why this film exists, is defeated by the unimaginative story-telling,  as is the subtext of age being just a number. The last time when he played old in a film which actually caught our attention was Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Uunchai’ in which he reached the Everest Base Camp despite all obstacles: it was maudlin but made you feel. Not this." ‘Vijay 69’ Movie Review: Anupam Kher’s Predictable ‘Motivational’ Sports Drama Is Diluted by Forced Humour and Farcical Situations (LatestLY Exclusive).

Money Control: "What doesn't work in the film as much in the film is the vlogging angle. We see Swati, a GenZ social media creator whose YouTube channel hosts videos of Aditya-Vijay's intra-colony rivalry in addition to “two frogs getting married” to each other. The supporting cast members are caricatures at best, annoying at worst, the weakest being Chunky Panday whose accent as Mr Bathena gave this critic traumatic flashbacks of Kajol's abomination of a Haryanvi accent in Do Patti."

iDiva: "Let Vijay 69  be your reminder today that age is literally no bar if you set your heart and mind at it, but of course, you need to prepare yourself depending on what you’re signing up for. At a time when preachy films get us nowhere, let this one be different!"
