It has been just one and half month since 2019 started and we already have the first Bollywood blockbuster in the form of Uri: the Surgical Strike. The Vicky Kaushal-Yami Gautam starrer paved way into everyone's hearts in no time. The catchphrase of 'How's the josh? High Sir!' was like an anthem for the movie-goers. Naturally, the film had to collect good numbers at the box office and as expected it did! In fact, the film has crossed the box office collection of Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan films, once again proving that times are changing. In the fifth week, Uri movie has collected Rs 216.21 crore at the ticket windows. Blame it on the spot on promotions, story, performances or the buzz of the movie but it has managed to steal the thunder of this huge star-studded movie. Here are the top five movies that Uri successfully beat at the BO.
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo: Salman Khan-Sonam Kapoor's family drama earned quite massively on the ticket windows. Considering the fact that Sallu was returning as 'Prem', the movie had to mint that much. However, the film received a moderate response from the critics. the film collected Rs 210.16 crore.
Golmaal Again: The Ajay Devgn starrer horror-comedy starring the crazy bunch of Rohit Shetty gained an enormous response. Even though, it was not as funny as its previous installments, the franchise can't really go wrong with its light-hearted content. The flick garnered Rs 205. 69 crore.
Happy New Year: The Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer film was not as well received by the critics as it was expected. However, the most sizzling pairing in this comedy-drama helped it garner Rs 200 at the box office, easily making it one of SRK's hits.
3 Idiots: Aamir Khan-Sharman Joshi-R Madhavan's loveable movie is that movie that hardly any Bollywood lover has missed. The flick had successfully earned Rs 202.95 at the ticket windows.
Ek Tha Tiger: Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif starrer action flick was loved by their fans to the core. The reunion of these ex flames in this spy story was the perfect catch for the makers. As expected the movie went on to make Rs 198.78 at the ticket windows.
If you notice, the movies mentioned above had one thing in common and that is the superstar value. However, 2018 and 2019 are the game changer years for the stars as the budding newbies are taking place of these 'heroes' of Bollywood. Maybe, this is a subtle warning bell for the actors from the older generation to step up their game as the new ones are racing past than with their strong, content-based films.
