Vicky Kaushal, known for his powerful performances in content-driven films, might surprise his fans with his acting origin story. While Masaan marked his debut as a lead actor in 2015, his journey on screen began even earlier. Eagle-eyed fans, or perhaps some social media sleuthing, unearthed a lesser-known fact - Vicky Kaushal had a blink-and-miss appearance in Anurag Kashyap's cult classic Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). Kaushal played a background artist in a scene featuring the fiery exchange between Nagma Khatoon (Richa Chadha) and Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpayee) at a brothel in the crime drama. “Last minute, everyone (junior artistes) that we'd rounded up in Varanasi refused to participate in that scene, once they realised it's a brothel,” Kaushal told Midday during a chat. Adding to the intrigue, Kaushal pinpointed his location for fans eager to play spot-the-star. "I'm that silhouette you see overacting behind the window grille, when Nagma Khatoon is cursing Sardar Khan!" he said. "That was the first time I ever faced a camera."
This behind-the-scenes story sheds light on Kaushal's early days in the industry. FYI, he wasn't just an actor in Gangs of Wasseypur but also served as an assistant director for Anurag Kashyap. Their collaboration continued with Raman Raghav 2.0, a crime thriller released in 2016.
