Veteran Music Composer Khayyam Passes Away
After struggling in the ICU at a Mumbai hospital, legendary music composer Mohammed Zahur Khayyam Hashmi popularly known as Khayyam passed away on August 19. The 92-year-old composer was suffering from a lung infection when he was admitted at the hospital a few days ago.
Veteran music composer Mohammed Zahur Khayyam who was admitted to Sujay Hospital in Mumbai earlier this week passed away on August 19. The music director who is known to have composed memorable tunes for films like Kabhie Kabhie and Umrao Jaan was in a critical condition due to an infection in lungs. After his condition continued to deteriorate, the composer was kept on a ventilator.
The 92-year-old composer was admitted at a suburban hospital on August 15 after his condition has worsened and was kept in the ICU over the past few days.
Khayyam will always be remembered for his iconic contribution to Bollywood with brilliant compositions such as Noorie (1979), Raziya Sultan (1983), Bazaar (1982) which are considered to be legendary albums even today. He first gained fame for composing music for the 1961 film Shola Aur Shabnam.
As per reports, musicians Salim Merchant and Sonu Nigam had arrived at the hospital. The details about the last rites of the composer are yet to be released. We are saddened by the loss of this legendary musician. May his soul rest in peace.
