Varun Dhawan's October was considered as one of the most critically acclaimed movies in 2018. Even though it failed to make profits at the box office, October won its team and the lead actor, Varun Dhawan, a lot of plaudits. The movie's streaming rights have been taken over by Amazon Prime, where it is expected to make more fans, who missed the chance to see the movie in theatres. October is directed by Shoojit Sircar and written by Juhi Chaturvedi.

However, October is not without its share of controversies. In April, the makers of the film were accused of plagiarism by a Marathi film-maker, Sarika Mene. She claimed that October was based on her drama, Aarti, which itself by inspired by a real-life incident that happened to her brother Sunny Pawar. The drama was about how he took care of his girlfriend, who was paralysed in an accident, tills he passed away. When she had submitted her complaint to  Screenwriters' Association (SWA), they rejected her objection.

Now she has sent a legal notice to both the team of October and Amazon Prime. Speaking to Mid-Day, Mene said, "We have to procure the rights to Sunny's life story, so that no one else does this to us again. We don't want money; we only want acknowledgement that this movie is based on his life." When the paper texted Sircar over this, he replied back with a 'No Comments'.
