Varun Dhawan’s October, Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad, Alia Bhatt’s Raazi – 13 Bollywood Movies That Impressed the Hell Out of Us in 2018, Ranked!

So did we choose for your favourite Hindi film of the year on the list?

Varun Dhawan's October, Sohum Shah's Tummbad, Alia Bhatt's Raazi - 13 Bollywood Movies of 2018 That Impressed The Hell Out of Us!

With so many movies coming out 2018, some of them really, really good ones, it was a very difficult task for us to contain our favourite movies with the usual list of five or ten movies. And then we thought, why not break the rule, why go for that round figure? So we chose our list of 13 movies that impressed us the most in the year that is about to bid us goodbye. Not an easy mission by miles for we have left out some very popular choices, and replaced them with a couple of controversial ones in there! Anil Kapoor in Race 3, Swara Bhasker in Veere Di Wedding, Vicky Kaushal in Sanju - 13 Scene-Stealing Performances in Bollywood Movies of 2018

Like for example, Sanju. We loved the performances, especially that of Ranbir Kapoor's and Vicky Kaushal's, but the movie's charm has been lost over the writer in the months ahead, as it became more evident that it was a whitewashing project. Also, Padmaavat, an expensively mounted magnum opus that disappointed us when it comes to its narrative. Akshay Kumar's Pad Man had a nice message but loses itself completely in the second half. We are also unhappy that we can't place an Aamir Khan movie here, for his offering this year, Thugs of Hindostan, disappointed us badly. And yet, we placed a Shah Rukh Khan film here that had been rejected by audiences, for we know in the years to come, it will be hailed as a piece of cinema we will be proud of. Not Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor or Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff is The Real Box Office Superstar of 2018 - Here's Why.

So without further ado, here are the 13 films that impressed us the most this year, ranked from the comparatively LEAST IMPRESSIVE to the MOST IMPRESSIVE! Do vote for your favourite movie in the poll at the end of this feature.

102 Not Out

Here's what our review says about the film - "Big B and Kapoor will give you a lot of reasons to enjoy this film. Such effortlessly brilliant acting and direction! You will have moments that make you smile, laugh and at one point, I assure you, you will find yourself holding your parents' hand while watching the film."

Stree

Here's what our review says about the film - "Stree is an entertaining mix of humour and scares, especially the former in big doses. All the actors have done amazing work in making you laugh, while there will be some scenes that will make you jump from your seats."

Sui Dhaaga: Made in India

Here's what our review says about the film - "Although I cannot say 'Sab Badhiya Hai' about the movie, but Sui Dhaaga Made In India is a simple film told in a very engaging manner. Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma shine throughout the film with their endearing acts, which should further establish their credentials as dependable performers."

Manmarziyaan

Here's what our review says about the film - "Manmarziyaan is an unusual love story that uses a heard-before premise and let the characters drive it to achieve a different effect. Backed by some good writing and excellent performances, Manmarziyaan works for those looking for something different in movies that deal with the matters of the heart."

October

Here's what our review says about the film - "October can boast of Varun Dhawan's most interesting, finest performance till date. His performance adds a lovely hue to what can be seen as Shoojit Sircar's dreamy take on life, love and death."

Karwaan

Here's what our review says about the film - "Karwaan is a very simple film but it will definitely put a wide smile on your face, make you laugh even. Irrfan's brutally honest personality, Dulquer's mature persona and Mithila's teenager vibes make this film a complete entertainer."

Zero

Here's what our review says about the film - "Zero has both the strengths and the issues to be a movie that will invoke a mixed response from the viewers. It is flawed, but Zero sails through its weaknesses thanks to Aanand L Rai's direction and the excellent performances from Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma."

Raazi

Here's what our review says about the film - "Coupled up with Meghna Gulzar's assured direction and Alia Bhatt's brilliant performance, Raazi is a fantastic effort in good story-telling, as well as in paying tribute to those unsung heroes who have dedicated their lives for the safety of our country. A must watch indeed!"

Manto

Here's what our review says about the film - "Manto is one of the best films to come out from Hindi cinema in recent times. Led by a brilliant performance from Nawazuddin Siddiqui and astonishing handling by Nandita Das, this is a must watch!"

Mulk

Here's what our review says about the film - "Mulk offers a powerful social commentary, that works as the need of the moment. It makes a compelling statement that a man's religion should not be his identity, but his actions and his proclivity. Backed by the terrific performances of Rishi Kapoor and Taapsee Pannu, Mulk is a must-watch."

Andhadhun

Here's what our review says about the film - "AndhaDhun is a riveting thriller laced with enough black humour and fabulous performances. It will be a treat for movie buffs who are fans of Coen Brothers and Shane Black. Just wish the movie had a tighter second half which would have made this easily Sriram Raghavan's best work to date, an honour that stays with Johnny Gaddaar."

Badhaai Ho

Here's what our review says about the film - "Badhaai Ho may present itself as a funny movie, but it will sneakily touch your hearts with some genuine well-directed emotional moments. Entertaining and engaging, it is another winner from Ayushmann Khurrana, who is becoming one of the most dependable actors in Bollywood."

Tumbbad

Here's what our review says about the film - "Blending the elements of fantasy and horror in a nearly perfect combo, Tumbbad is a gripping piece of story-telling. Visually stunning and packed with enough chills, Tumbbad captivates you from the first frame and doesn't let loose its grasp over you till the end. Very highly recommended, if you crave for original content. After all, how many horror movies does India make that turns out to be a haunting affair worth recommending to the world?"
