Bollywood as an industry is extremely competitive. And it’s not just the media that pits stars opposite each other, the camps and godfathers of the industry often end up playing these number games. While Ranveer Singh is delivering solid performances and Ranbir Kapoor has made it to the top league of box office stars, Varun Dhawan has been speedily rising up the stairs of success. The young actor is not just one of the most popular faces and crowd pullers, Varun has impressed the critics and even his naysayers with his eclectic choice of roles and movies. Karan Johar’s this protégé is in fact even turning those criticizing the stylish filmmaker of nepotism appreciate his work and efforts. And while Varun shares a warm rapport with his peers be it Ranbir Kapoor or then Ranveer Singh, the equations may change over time. Don’t we all remember how thick Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan were in the beginning of their careers? Or for that matter how Aamir Khan’s rapport with Sallu took a hit when the latter became a threat to Mr Perfectionist’s superb box office records?
Here’s why Ranveer and Ranbir will keep a close watch on Varun Dhawan’s growing popularity amongst filmmakers, industry wallahs, critics and fans.
While Ranveer has been experimenting with his roles and making commercial masala movies alongside the extravagant period dramas. The actor has been often compared to Aamir Khan. A perfectionist himself Ranveer digs his teeth deep into his characters and treating his audience with his stellar acts. His super cool fashion statements and shocking transformations have managed to bag him plenty of awards. The actor is walking a fine line between working with his favourite filmmakers and collaborating with new talents. He’s indeed one of the best actors we have in B-town today.
The Kapoor lad has been a survivor. The actor plunged in film production very early on in his career and even tasted failure. Despite being appreciated for his performances, unlike some of his junior contemporaries, Ranbir did not manage to win the trade pundits as his movies failed to get cash registers ringing… Until Rajkumar Hirani happened to the actor. With Sanju, Ranbir entered the world of biggies (the Khans and Kumars). However, his coming films will determine if it was just the Munna Bhai helmer’s Midas touch or then his pure talent and charm that brings audiences to the theatres.
Varun Dhawan started his career with a typical Bollywood masala film Student Of The Year. The actor instantly clicked with the young moviegoers. Many were suspicious that David Dhawan’s son would manage to go beyond staple Bollywood hero roles, but Varun proved them wrong time and again. The actor played the second fiddle to Nawazuddin Siddiqui when he worked in Sriram Raghavan’s Badlapur. Dhawan Jr surprised everyone when he revealed that Shoojir Sircar had not approached him for October, but as an actor he asked the Piku director to cast him in his directorial. The movie might not have got cash registers ringing, but Varun did mint money with his other movies. And now he’s all set to work with Anushka Sharma in Sui Dhaaga, another movie that’s a far cry from his mentor Karan Johar’s glamorous movies. The actor we hear is trying to also fill in the void of Govinda in his father’s hit No 1 series. Varun has a 100 per cent success record. He is immensely popular on social platforms and has an amazing blend of his senior stars. He can romance like SRK, get into the skin of characters like Aamir and everyone thinks he is the only young hero who can step into Salman’s big shoes. To add to it he manages action, comedy and is a fantastic dancer too.
Guess we will have to wait and watch if our prediction comes true. Will Varun Dhawan prove to be a threat to Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh comment and tell us.
