Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt starrer Kalank was roaring high during the promotions and the pre-partition period drama was also creating a buzz across the quarters. However, the multi-starrer big-budget love story Kalank failed to impress the critics and audiences alike, marking it as the first flop of Varun’s film career. The actor, who recently celebrated his 32nd birthday, was obviously disheartened by the flop. He recently revealed that his friends planned a getaway to Thailand on his birthday, to cheer and lighten his mood. Varun Dhawan To Marry Natasha Dalal in 2020, Confirms Dad David Dhawan.
During the vacation, the October actor indulged in his favourite boxing style, Muay Thai. He released a video of it, along with a heartfelt message of Kalank not meeting expectations of the public.
Varun said, “My 32nd birthday... But I am going to tell you how it all went down. I was a little down because my latest release did not go the way I thought it would and it did hit me a little hard, I will be very honest. I didn't know how to react to it. Lot of people told me, 'don't show it'. I don't know how to behave like that. Failures are a part of life." He further added, “My friends though had my back. [They] told me 'pack your bags.' I said, 'What are we going to do?' They said, 'Muay Thai.' So the 1:25 flight on GoAir, we flew and the rest you can watch."

Helmed by Abhishek Verman, Kalank is touted to be Karan Johar’s one of the most ambitious projects. The movie received some negative reviews and the magic doomed later. Despite having a stellar cast of Varun, Alia, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt, and Madhuri Dixit, the film could not bring the essence of entertainment among the masses.
On the work front, Varun will soon be seen sharing the screen space with Shraddha Kapoor and Nora Fatehi in Remo D’Souza’s dance film Street Dancer 3D. Produced under the banner of Bhushan Kumar, the film also stars Prabhudheva, Sonam Bajwa, Shakti Mohan, Vartika Jha, Dharmesh Yelande, Punit Pathak and Raghav Juyal in key roles. Street Dancer 3D will hit the theatres on November 8 this year.
