The recent horrific rape cases of Unnao and Kathua have sent the entire country in a state of shock. As the terrible details of both the cases came out, even Bollywood celebs took to Twitter to slam the slow justice process of the country. Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhasker, Konkona Sen Sharma even started a special campaign where they held a placard that read, "I am Hindustan. I am Ashamed. #JusticeForOurChild. 8 years old. Gangraped. Murdered. In 'Devi'-sthaan temple. #Kathua".

There have also been silent protests held in  various parts of the country today to demand the government to protect the citizens and not the rapists. In Mumbai a similar protest has been held at Carter road, that was attended by quite a few Bollywood celebs. While the so-called superstars gave it a miss, the protest was attended by director Kiran Rao, author-producer Twinkle Khanna, actors Rajkummar Rao, Patralekhaa, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sameera Reddy, Kalki Koechlin, music composer Vishal Dadlani and others.

In Kathua rape case, a 8-year-old girl was brutally raped and murdered by a group of policemen inside temple premises in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district. When the culprits were arrested, there was a rally led by two BJP ministers to protect the rapists.

The second case happened in Uttar Pradesh's Unnao district, where a minor had accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar of raping her and tried to commit suicide in front of UP CM Yogi Adityanath's residence. Her father was later illegally detained by the police and later died in custody due to injuries inflicted by the accused MLA's brother. In both the cases, there was much delay in delivering justice to the victims and their kin. This has lead to a nationwide outrage, with citizens demanding arrests of the culprits and swift justice be meted out.
