Tuesday Trivia: Bhumi Pednekar Was Cast in Manmarziyaan and Not Taapsee Pannu!
Manmarziyaan had lots of casting and directorial changes before it finally went on floors.
Manmarziyaan, which released last year and won millions of hearts, was initially offered to Bhumi Pednekar and not Taapsee Pannu. In fact, she and Ayushmann Khurrana were supposed to play the lead in the film. And it was not Anurag Kashyap but Sameer Sharma who was in charge of directing the project earlier. Bhumi and Ayushmann even shot for 10 days in Amritsar back in 2016 but the film was then put on hold. Manmarziyaan First Reviews from TIFF 2018 OUT! Later, Anurag was brought on board as the director and instead of Bhumi, it was Taapsee who was signed for the lead role this time. As for Ayushmann, his role ended up going to Vicky Kaushal. Abhishek Bachchan was the last one to join the cast. After a lot of hurdles, Manmarziyaan finally released in September last year and was premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. The romantic drama performed well at the box office too and three lead actors were especially praised for their terrific performances. Guess all’s well that ends well, right?
Our in-house critic Sreeju Sudhakaran gave the movie 3 stars out of 5 and wrote in his review, “Manmarziyaan is an unusual love story that uses a heard-before premise and let the characters drive it to achieve a different effect. Backed by some good writing and excellent performances, Manmarziyaan works for those looking for something different in movies that deal with the matters of the heart."
