So Tiger Shroff comes up with the first sequel of his career with Baaghi 2 releasing this week. Though it continues the franchise with the first Baaghi that came out in 2016, the movie won't be a continuation even though it has the same leading man with the same name, Ronnie. Instead like the Munna Bhai series, it will tell a new adventure with more kickass stunts. Baaghi 2, reportedly made on a budget of Rs 70 crore plus, is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Studios and is directed by Ahmed Khan. Disha Patani, in her second movie role, plays the female lead while Baaghi 2 also stars Manoj Bajpayee, Randeep Hooda, Prateik Babbar, Darshan Kumar and Deepak Dobriyal.

Bollywood has been bitten by the sequel bus for long, but it is in the past few years that there had been a rush of second and third-parters. Many of these franchises have been successful like Housefull, Dhoom, Munna Bhai etc, but there have been failures too (Rock On). But how has sequels fares for action movies? Have they replicated the success of the first movie always? Just so to show how history is in favour of Baaghi 2, let's look at 10 popular action movie sequels and how they fared at the box office.

So here are the hits...

Dabangg 2

While the sequel was almost a rehash of all the masala elements of the first movie, the audience didn't mind Salman Khan and his belt-twirling antics the second time round. Dabanng 2 was a bigger hit than the first movie.

Dhoom 2/Dhoom 3

I don't need to state this fact here that both the Dhoom sequels have been monster hits. In fact, Dhoom 3, despite getting the worst reviews for the franchise, is one of the biggest hits in Bollywood.

Don 2

If there is a clamouring for Don 3, it's all because the sequel to Farhan Akhtar's stylish reboot of the Amitabh Bachchan classic, starring Shah Rukh Khan, has done wonderful business at the box office.

Krrish 3

Though Krrish in itself a continuation to Koi Mil Gaya, Krrish 3 (let's ignore where Krrish 2 went) is a proper sequel. Again like some of the previous entries, it was not as well received by the critics like the first Krrish. But the public favoured their desi superhero fighting mutants rip-offs and made it Hrithik Roshan's biggest hit of his career.

Singham Returns

Singham Returns may lack a formidable antagonist like the first movie's Prakash Raj and powerful scenes, but it rode purely on the character's brand value and Ajay Devgn-Rohit Shetty's winning combo.

Race 2

Though Saif Ali Khan is no longer a part of the Race franchise having been replaced by Salman Khan, he still can say that the sequel remains the biggest hit of his career.

Tiger Zinda Hai

Tiger Zinda Hai is Salman Khan's biggest hit ever. Nothing more to add here!

Now let's talk about what didn't work...

Ghayal: Once Again

After more than two decades, Sunny Deol made a sequel to his blockbuster hit Ghayal, that he himself directed. However, it was a case of being too late, as the audiences gave the movie a miss.

Force 2

Surprisingly, Force 2 is not a bad movie at all, well at least in yours truly's opinion. It has some engaging action sequences, few surprise twists and a really awesome villain in Tahir Raj Bhasin. For some strange reason, the movie failed to draw in the crowds, even though worse sequels have been turned hits.

Commando 2: The Black Money Trail

The first movie, that showcased Vidyut Jammwal's martial arts skills in  the right way, was a sleeper hit. The sequel, that went bigger in budget and scope, failed to improve the script and was rejected by the audience.

Going by the stats, it looks like a 70/30 odds in favour of Baaghi 2. Adding Tiger Shroff's immense popularity among the younger audiences, it looks like we have a hit in our hand!
