Wanting to see something different in Bollywood? How about Thugs of Hindostan? The upcoming Yash Raj film is one of the rare times when Hindi cinema deals with pirates. The trailer of the Diwali bonanza is here and it looks grandiose and something different at least in its treatment. Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh are the leads in the film, while Lloyd Owen plays the film (harbouring the spirit of Lagaan's Captain Russell). Thugs of Hindostan is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya of Dhoom 3 fame. Thugs of Hindostan Trailer: Every Frame in This Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Fatima Sana Shaikh Pirate Saga Screams EPIC- Watch Video.
The period setting looks great, the action scenes feel kickass (never knew Amitabh Bachchan can still manage to look so badass at his age) and Aamir Khan plays it to the galleries. Any glitches? The special effects don't feel polished at some plays, and the narrative is damn too predictable. Also can't help but point out similarities from other movies. Especially the 'less-popular' Johnny Depp pirate series. We look at five movies that Thugs of Hindostan trailer reminded us of! Thugs of Hindostan: 6 Things You Should Know About the Aamir Khan-Amitabh Bachchan Starrer.
Before that, do check out the trailer of Thugs of Hindostan first -
Pirates of the Caribbean
Sure, they share the common theme of pirates. But there is no supernatural element in Thugs of Hindostan. But the pirates in this film do take on the British just like they did in the Hollywood series. Also, we can't help but admit that Aamir Khan's Firangi is too similar to Jack Sparrow when it comes to his idiosyncrasies and mannerisms.
Dancing With the Wolves/Avatar
The idea of a spy infiltrating into an enemy camp by pretending to share their sympathies only to actually fight for them has been seen in so many movies. Like Dances With The Wolves, Avatar, Chakravyuh, Namak Haram etc etc etc.
Wonder Woman
Fatima Sana Shaikh's archery and attack scenes seem all too borrowed from this DC superhero movie.
Kranti
Amitabh Bachchan's rogue leader taking on the imperial monarchs for freedom feels similar to this Manoj Kumar film.
The Mask of Zorro
The seductive play between Aamir and Katrina's characters gives us the vibes of Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones doing so in The Mask of Zorro. Even some of the swordplay seems to be borrowed from the film.
