Thugs of Hindostan Quick Movie Review: Amitabh Bachchan Steals The Show From Aamir Khan in This Pirate Saga
Here's our quick review of Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan's Diwali release, Thugs of Hindostan.
It is here! Arguably, the biggest Bollywood film, Thugs of Hindostan, has landed in theatres near you, and the excitement is pretty much in the air. A pirate saga, the movie stars Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh in the lead. This is the first time that Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan are sharing the screen, so that's one exciting combo. As for the leading ladies, Aamir has delivered two blockbusters with them in Dhoom 3 (Katrina) and Dangal (Fatima Sana Shaikh). Thugs of Hindostan is produced by Yash Raj Films and is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya of Dhoom 3 fame. Our critic, Sreeju Sudhakaran, is watching the film right now and here's what he has to say about the first half - Thugs of Hindostan: Fans Are Unhappy With High Ticket Prices for Aamir Khan's Film; Call The Makers the Real Thugs - Read Tweets.
"Aamir Khan, in recent times, is known for his message-oriented entertainers, like PK and Dangal. So seeing him try pure masala stuff after 2013's Dhoom 3 is kind of a refreshing thought. Why he may not share such an ardent fan-base as Salman Khan or Shah Rukh Khan, the one base he has, turns up in theatres in hordes because they are sure of one thing - Aamir is giving them something different and there is a high chance that it would be good too!
So what about Thugs of Hindostan? Concept-wise, the saga of pirates revolting against the British is something novel for a hardcore Bollywood fan unless you are into Pirates of the Caribbean series.
The story of Thugs of Hindustan is nothing to talk about. The first half of the following is exactly how it plays in the trailer, as Aamir Khan's double-faced Firangi deceives his way into Amitabh Bachchan's Khudabaksh and his thugs at the behest of the British. What works are the action scenes and the badassery of Amitabh Bachchan and Fatima Sana Shaikh's characters. Compared to them, Aamir Khan's act is not exactly convincing. While the CGI may not be completely convincing, the set-pieces are good.
The interval point arrives with a huge twist as a major character bites the dust in a battle. Looking forward to seeing how Thugs of Hindustan takes the story from here.
