Thugs of Hindostan Music Review: Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif's Film Deserves a More Epic Score
For a movie as epic as Thugs of Hindostan, the soundtrack of the film definitely falls short of expectations.
This Diwali arrives the biggest Bollywood film of the year in Thugs of Hindostan. An epic period pirate saga, the movie stars Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh in the lead and is produced by Yash Raj Films (YRF). The last time Aamir Khan and YRF came together, we got a blockbuster hit in Dhoom 3. The director of Dhoom 3, Vijay Krishna Acharya, is also serving as the director for Thugs of Hindostan. The movie is all set to release on November 8. Movies This Week: Thugs of Hindostan – 5 Reasons Why You Should Watch the Aamir Khan-Amitabh Bachchan Starrer Action Adventure.
For a movie as big as Thugs of Hindostan, it certainly deserves an equally epic soundtrack too. Composers Ajay-Atul, known for their melodious compositions in Marathi cinema (Sairat anyone?), have been given this arduous task. Ajay-Atul is riding on a high wave of popularity in Bollywood these days, having also scored the chance to compose music for Shah Rukh Khan's Zero, another biggie getting to release soon. Zero: 5 Reasons Why Shah Rukh Khan Thanking Riteish Deshmukh For Avoiding Mauli's Clash With Zero is a Masterstroke.
Thugs of Hindostan, interestingly, only has three songs in its recently unveiled jukebox, with Amitabh Bhattacharya penning the lyrics for the same. Here's our review on all the three songs. Good News for Aamir Khan! Thugs of Hindostan Will Release in Pakistan Without Any Cuts.
Vashmalle
The first song in the soundtrack happens to be the powerful-sounding Vashmalle. It's a cracker of a track, high on energy more thanks to Sukhwinder Singh and Vishal Dadlani singing the song with enough gusto. It will be a treat to see Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan shake a leg together on the big screen and Vashmalle's beats will make the spectacle more enjoyable!
Suraiyya
Ajay-Atul's theme for the film might be to go grand with their score, going by the starting beats of Suraiyya. However, it soon shifts to retro soon as Vishal Dadlani kicks in the singing, with the melodious Shreya Ghoshal joining him soon. While Suraiyya is a fun track to listen to, it is easily forgettable when the song is over.
Manzoor-e-Khuda
Manzoor-e-Khuda feels like a song that plays in the background when an action scene is going on, something we have seen in quite a few movies in the past. The song is quite serviceable, elevated only by the singing combo of Sukhwinder Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal. Nothing else.

Final Thoughts
For a movie as epic as Thugs of Hindostan, the soundtrack of the film definitely falls short of expectations. Considering that it is a YRF film and the studio is known for having a keen sense of music, this is a little disappointing. Only Vashmalle makes some kind of impact, while most of the songs feel like they exist to make things interesting on screen.
