If Race 3 had not enough damage to the sanctity of the Indian cinema already, Thugs of Hindostan is here to do the job.

If Race 3 had not enough damage to the sanctity of the Indian cinema already this year, Thugs of Hindostan is here to do the job. YRF released Bollywood's most-expensive movie yet today. Thugs of Hindostan stars names like Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Fatima Sana Shaikh. It has been directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, who was the man behind making Dhoom 3. In that case, all the critics should have seen this coming, but they were still surprised by how bad Thugs of Hindostan really is. The movie is being universally slammed by the critics. Even the ones who are known to be generous with their reviews are not holding back from taking punches.

Let us begin with Pinkvilla. The entertainment portal concluded their review for Thugs of Hindostan with the line summing it all: "Don’t go expecting magic, for you will feel ‘thugged’ yourself!" Thugs of Hindostan Viewers Review in Memes and Jokes! Twitterati Who Booked Expensive Tickets Are Roasting Story of Aamir Khan-Amitabh Bachchan’s Latest Movie.

Hindustan Times dissected the misfires of the film very well. They wrote, " It prioritises size over smarts, set-pieces over the script. The size, too, is unimpressive, with cardboard-y visual effects, poor rope-physics, haphazard continuity and decks of ships that look too small, but all that could have been forgiven — the $41 million budget wouldn’t go far in Hollywood either — if the film gave us characters worth caring about or laughing with."

The Indian Express called Thugs of Hindostan a "non-stop combo of eye-roll-and-eye-glaze". Just like Pinkvilla they also feel the audience was the one 'thugged'. They added, "...this is thuggery on a large scale, and we the viewers are at the receiving end."

NDTV, relatively, went easier on the movie. They did find the mass appeal in Thugs of Hindostan while giving it 2.5 stars out of 5. But criticising it, they also wrote, "Glitzily mounted but caught between solemnity and fluffiness, Thugs of Hindostan might entertain large swathes of the audience, but it is ultimately too tacky and unconvincing to lay legitimate claims to being India's answer to Pirates of the Caribbean. It isn't even a poor copy."

The ghosts of Tashan and Dhoom 3 are not leaving the side of Vijay Krishna Acharya any time soon. Many critics were reminded of those movies once again. Like Mumbai Mirror. They wrote, "For a film that leans so heavily on action, the stunts barely offer anything you’ve not seen before, and given that this falls in the fantasy genre, elevated expectations are met with mediocre execution. But then again, this one is helmed by director Vijay Krishna Acharya whose filmography includes visually compelling-yet-hollow films such as Tashan and Dhoom 3"

Here is one which says that Thugs of Hindostan might be entertaining. Taking away the glory is News 18 who wrote, "Thugs Of Hindostan may satiate your need for entertainment this Diwali, but overall, it’s a solid case of great boast, little roast. "

Lastly, our in-house film critic, Sreeju Sudhakaran did not particularly enjoy the movie. He wrote in his review, "While the makers did do a good job of making the film a grand spectacle, they failed to invest some time and money in creating a good story arc around the explosions. Thugs of Hindostan will disappoint you and even Mr Perfectionist, Aamir Khan, can do little to change this!"

Popular film critics like Rajeev Masand, Rahul Desai, Stutee Ghosh, Taran Adarsh (more popular as a trade analyst) have all expressed their disappointment in Thugs of Hindostan. Critics have done their part and any amount of bashing has never stopped a movie from earning big bucks at the box office. So, over to you guys.
