Right from the time we learnt about its 'pirate' theme, Thugs of Hindostan has often been compared with Johnny Depp's Pirates of the Carribean series. Now the posters of the film that the makers have been revealing in the past few days did little to dispel these notions. Especially Aamir Khan's first look poster! The whole dishevelled drunken look of Aamir Khan's Firangi screams Jack Sparrow and many on Twitter have pointed this out on Twitter. Thugs of Hindostan: Aamir Khan’s Firangi Looks Like a Hybrid of Willy Wonka, Mad Hatter and Jack Sparrow!
Whether Thugs of Hindostan has been influenced by Pirates of the Carribean or not, we can only tell when the trailer arrives on September 27. However, while we somewhat agree with the while Jack Sparrow influence, there is another feature of the Aamir Khan poster that caught our eye. The sunglasses! Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Katrina Kaif and Amitabh Bachchan's Thugs of Hindostan First Official Movie Poster Out - See Pic!
Now as per some reports, Thugs of Hindostan is set in the early 18th century with the so-called pirates taking on British's East India Company. Sunglasses are considered more of a 20th-century fad. So are the makers wrong in showing Aamir Khan's character with sunglasses? Yes and No!
Like we said before, sunglasses may be 20th-century style statement made popular by yesteryear Hollywood icons, but its usage can be traced centuries back to the Roman empire where rough cut shades were used.
As per Glasseshistory.com, sunglasses with tinted glasses were experimented upon in the mid-18th century. Here comes the big shocker though. The website further adds that, "Glasses tinted with yellow-amber and brown were also a commonly-prescribed item for people with syphilis in the 19th and early 20th century because one of the symptoms of the disease was sensitivity to light."
Since Aamir Khan is wearing similar colour glasses in the poster, we wonder if his character is also suffering from this VD. Gulp! If that's the case, then it is quite a risky move from the makers and even Aamir Khan himself. If not, then this is one big oversight!
Thugs of Hindostan is directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya and also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh in the lead. The movie is all set to release on November 7.
