Aamir Khan already has the record of having the highest grossing Bollywood film to date, as well as the highest grossing Indian film worldwide, both being his 2017 blockbuster Dangal. However, there was one record that did not belong to his kitty. The highest opening day collection record belonged to two other films - Baahubali 2 (all languages) and Shah Rukh Khan's Happy New Year in Bollywood (Rs 44.97 crore). Not any more, it seems. Going by the trade buzz, not only has Aamir Khan beat Shah Rukh Khan's film's opening day collections, but also became the first Bollywood film to cross Rs 50 crore mark on day one. Thugs of Hindostan Movie Review: Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif's Pirate Saga Needed Less of Jack Sparrow Buffoonery and More of Amitabh Bachchan Badassery

We have to add here that these are just estimated and the final figures are not officially out yet. The above information is passed on by the makers of Thugs of Hindostan, Yash Raj Films. That said, there is little reason to disbelieve the earnings since Thugs of Hindostan had seen the highest pre-sale collections for a Bollywood film, as it collected Rs 27.50 crore through this. Also, the move enjoyed the advantage of being released during the Diwali holiday. The ticket prices have also been hiked seeing the budget of the film (reportedly, Rs 300 crore...errr...really?). And did we mention that the movie stars Aamir Khan in the lead? Shah Rukh Khan's Happy New Year, Salman Khan's Sultan: 5 First Day Box Office Collections Records Aamir Khan's Thugs of Hindostan Will Have To Break!

However, some trade analysts are of the opinion that the collections are not as high as what the production house is giving ut. They are claiming it to have collected around Rs 40 - 42 crore (all languages). Even if this is true, it still makes Thugs of Hindostan Aamir Khan's highest opening day collections, beating Dhoom 3 (Rs 36.22 crore) and Dangal (Rs 29.78 crore).

Also, as per some trade estimates, the movie has seen a dip in the occupancy of day 2, thanks to the bad reviews and the poor word-of-mouth.
