Last week, Vivek Agnihotri's directorial venture The Tashkent Files arrived in theatres and opened to not so great reviews. Starring  Naseeruddin Shah and Mithun Chakraborty in the lead roles, the thriller is based on the mysterious death of former Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. While the film couldn't impress the critics, it hasn't appealed to the audience as well. Hence its performance at the box office so far has been very mediocre. Apart from helming the film, Agnihotri has also produced and written the screenplay of The Tashkent FilesThe Tashkent Files Movie Review: Vivek Agnihotri’s Political Thriller Feels Less a Movie, More a Badly Staged Drama

Coming back to the box office collection, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to the microblogging site Twitter a while back and announced the updated figures. He wrote, "#TheTashkentFiles shows solid trending on weekdays, despite limited showcasing [250 screens/few shows at plexes]... Tue biz higher than Mon biz... Fri 40 lakhs, Sat 80 lakhs, Sun 1 cr, Mon 35 lakhs, Tue 36 lakhs. Total: ₹ 2.91 cr. India biz."

Apart from Naseeruddin Shah and Mithun Chakraborty starrer, Hollywood film Hellboy also arrived in theatres last Friday. However, the film failed to get cash registers ringing and crashed at the box office on Monday. Trade portal Boxofficeindia.com reported, "Hellboy has fared poorly as collections crashed on Monday while The Tashkent Files was pretty close to the number on Friday. The film had to really be better on Monday than Friday as it was low weekend collections but it has caught up with Hellboy despite opening less than half of that film." Hellboy Movie Review: David Harbour Stars in a Tedious Reboot That Fails to Make Good of Its Bonkers Setting

But now that Karan Johar's Kalank has released today, it won't be long before Vivek Agnihotri's thriller finds its way out of cinema halls. Starring Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Madhuri Dixit Nene and Sanjay Dutt, Kalank is directed by Abhishek Varman and is set in the 1940s.
