The makers of The Fault in Our Stars remake have finally found their female lead in the pretty Sanjana Sanghi. This would be the lady's first role as she was seen earlier in small roles in movies like Rockstar, Hindi Medium and Fukrey Returns. Her role in Hindi Medium will be what the viewers can connect most with her, as she played the younger version of Saba Qamar's character in the movie. In The Fault in Our Stars remake that marks the directorial debut of Mukesh Chhabra, she will be seen romancing Sushant Singh Rajput in the movie.
Before we get ahead and tell you how Sanghi's casting is so apt but that makes Rajput's involvement so wrong, let's ask you this - have you seen the original Hollywood movie? The Fault in Our Stars is adapted by John Green's best-selling novel of the same name, and stars Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort in the lead. The Fault in our Stars is about two cancer-afflicted teens who find comfort and solace in each other's company that leads to a tender love story. It is one of the Young Adult movies that was a huge hit among the teens and has a created a legacy for itself. Now you got the idea of where we are going with this?
No? Well, then let's give you a hint - the 'teen' factor. While it is difficult to gauge whether Sanjana Sanghi can match upto Shailene Woodley's prowess from her bit roles in the earlier movies, at least she looks a teen.
The same, unfortunately, cannot be said about Sushant Singh Rajput who hardly looks a teen. His casting in the movie had raised eyebrows when it was announced, and with the younger Sanghi being cast as the female lead, the question has now got a bold font! It begs us to ask why Chhabra couldn't have gone for a younger star for the male lead. Hasn't the success of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety shown us that you really don't need star names to make a movie hit?
I do hope the movie does have some kind of logic to this pairing, because on paper, it surely is an odd one.
Meanwhile, in a statement to the daily, Chhabra had this to say about choosing Sanjana for the role, “I met Sanjana while casting for Rockstar and found her to be a dynamic girl with great energy. After a few years, she reconnected for a few ad jobs and this time she came across as a mature young lady and to my surprise, a fabulous actor. I knew instantly that I would love to make a film with her one day. Once The Fault in Our Stars script was ready, she fit right in. She’s the perfect face and I can’t wait to create magic with this talented girl.”
AR Rahman will be scoring the music for the remake that is scheduled to roll this year.
