Anupam Kher plays former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this week's big release, The Accidental Prime Minister. Directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, the movie is based on the book by the same name written by Singh's former press secretary Sanjay Baru. Akshaye Khanna plays the role of Baru in the film. The movie has created a lot of controversies when the trailers came out, with Congress party accusing the film of being a propaganda tool for the ruling BJP party. So how true are these accusations? We are watching the film right now and here's what we have to say about the first half of The Accidental Prime Minister. Delhi High Court Turns Down Plea Seeking Ban on ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ Trailer.

"The movie begins with the Congress winning the elections in 2003 under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi. However, it is Manmohan Singh who is chosen as the Prime Minister. He appoints Sanju Baru as his Press Secretary. The movie then talks about how Singh's governance is stipulated by petty political issues. The main conflict in the first half is the nuclear deal with the United States, that is not supported by the Left, and Sonia Gandhi also kind of supports their stand. The Accidental Prime Minister has its moments, thanks to the satirical elements and some funny scenes. Akshaye Khanna's commentary makes things even more interesting. Anupam Kher's act may feel like mimicry, but it works. The first half is about Singh's first term. Now on to the second term."
