In a surprising bit of casting, supremely talented Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been roped in to play the late Bal Thackeray, one of the most prominent political heads in free India and the founder of Shiv Sena party. Surprising, because no one expected they would cast a Muslim actor from Uttar Pradesh to play the Maharashtrian legend, more so because of Shiv Sena's past, controversial stand on Muslims and migrants from UP are well-known. And yet this miracle happened, and we now have the trailer of the biopic. Even Before its Release, Makers of Nawazuddin Siddiqui's Thackeray are Planning a Sequel to it
Going by the trailer, Thackeray the film shows the rise of the beloved leader of the Maharashtrians from the '70s to addressing his role in the 1993 Bombay riots, and the legal battles that followed. Nawazuddin's casting makes sense as his body language and the height matches that of the Shiv Sena supremo. He couldn't manage to nail that Marathi accent, though. However, Siddiqui scores when it comes to spouting fiery dialogues! Nawazuddin Siddiqui In Trouble With Mumbai Police For Allegedly Spying On His Wife.
Amrita Rao makes a comeback to the cinema, playing Thackeray's late wife, Meena Tai Thackeray.

However, expecting a balanced biopic from Thackeray is preposterous, considering the movie has the back from his founded party. So the movie would rather present events from his point of view and his thought process.
Thackeray is directed by Abhijit Panse and is written by Shiv Sena politician Sanjay Raut. The movie will release by January 25, 2019.
