Apart from Kangana Ranaut's Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Thackeray also released on January 25 but got off to a sluggish start. The film also received a lukewarm response from the critics but over the weekend Thackeray took advantage of the Republic Day holiday and fared pretty well at the ticket windows overall. Co-starring Amrita Rao, Thackeray is directed by Abhijit Panse and has been released in Marathi as well. On day 1, the film witnessed low occupancy and ended up raking in Rs 6 crore at the Indian box office. Thackeray Box Office Collection Day 2: Nawazuddin Siddiqui's Film Rakes in Rs 16 Crore.

On day 2, the film did much better and collected Rs 10 crore. As for Sunday, Thackeray clocked in another Rs 8 crore at the BO, bringing its total three-day collection to Rs 24 crore according to BollywoodHungama. The report further says that if the film continues to do well then its very much likely for Thackeray to end week 1 at around Rs 35 crore in India.

With Manikarnika pulling the crowd to theatres and Uri: The Surgical Strike still getting cash registers ringing at the box office, Thackeray will certainly feel the heat on weekdays. However, the film should at least have a good run in Maharashtra considering the biopic is about late Balasaheb Thackeray.

Our in-house critic Sreeju Sudhakaran gave the movie 2.5 stars out of 5 and wrote in his review, "Your liking of Thackeray the movie depends neither on how well the movie is made nor on your opinion of this review. It more so matters on which side you stand on when it comes to your views on Bal Thackery, the political legend. If you are in favour of his ideologies, then you will love this film. If not, better skip it."
