Teachers' Day is celebrated across India on September 5. While many countries have their days to honour teachers, in India, it coincides with the birthdate of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. A distinguished professor, philosopher, and the second President of India, he was an exceptional student. The day is held in his honour. Bollywood, known for its rich musical heritage, has produced some timeless songs dedicated to teachers. 'Tu Dhoop Hai'

Taare Zameen Par (2017) is one of the best movies on student and teacher relationship. The film is about a caring teacher, Nikumbh (Aamir Khan) who guides a dyslexic student Ishaan (Darsheel Safary) towards self-confidence, happiness and creative pursuits. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy composed the music while the lyrics were by Prasoon Joshi. ‘Aaj Humne Dil Ka Har’

This song is a favourite of every 90s music lover. It is from the 1993 movie Sir by Mahesh Bhatt. Rahat Indori penned the lyrics while all the songs were composed by Anu Malik. Kavita Krishnamurthy and Kumar Sanu gave their melodious voices to the song. This is a favourite at many student and teacher functions in India.

'Ruk Jana Nahin'

This is from the movie Imtihaan (1974) starring Vinod Khanna and Tanuja. It is one of Kishore Kumar's golden hits. The lyrics are by Majrooh Sultanpuri while the composer is Laxmikant and Pyarelal. Vinod Khanna had played a professor in a college overrun by defiant students.

‘Hamari Hi Mutthi Mein’

Fans of 90s films know about Prahaar (1991). The movie is about an Army officer played by Nana Patekar. This prayer song was popular across schools and reminded us of days spent with our teachers. It is the last recorded song of Manna Dey, one of India's legendary singers. The lyrics are by Mangesh Kulkarni, while Laxmikant-Pyarelal composed the music.

Naresh Iyer and Mohammad Aslam have lent their voice to the song. It is a peppy classroom song that is a hit across generations of students.
