Sudden movie announcements is not a KJo style and yet he has done something unusual this time. Karan Johar suddenly dropped the cast announcement on the social media of his next directorial 'Takht'. This period drama has a stunning cast of Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar and Anil Kapoor. The film is said to be based on the Mughal era which makes KJo's first period drama. However is he is scared of being compared to Sanjay Leela Bhansali!

SLB is known for his extravagant and beautiful period dramas like Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. He also recreated Devdas. All of his work has given him the unofficial title of period drama expert. Naturally, now that the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil director is also venturing in the same space, the fans are comparing him to SLB already!

"I would be lying if I didn’t admit that the comparison is very challenging. I love Sanjay’s aesthetic. The comparison scares me but I hope I can find my own voice. I hope I’m not doomed by comparison. I’m just recovering from Sairat and I can’t go there again. I also don’t want to be overwhelmed by it, " he told in interaction with Film Companion.

Incidentally, Ranveer worked in both the SLB period dramas earlier and now he himself is again the lead in this Karan Johar film. It will be interesting to see him doing the role in a Dharma way.

While Ranveer will play the role of Dara Sukoh, his love interest will be played by Alia. On the other hand, Vicky will be seen portraying the role of Aurangzeb. Kareena will be essaying the role of Ranveer's sister Jahanara Begum. This will be Janhvi's second film after Dhadak. Do you think Kjo will match upto the mark created by Bhansali?
