Can we please have more actresses like Taapsee Pannu in Bollywood? The actress knows how to use her position of power to positively influence the world. Despite using well-measured words, she makes sure the point hits home. She has now joined a Mumbai-NGO which works toward spreading menstrual hygiene awareness and distributes sanitary napkins. The NGO is also supported by Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Taapsee opened up about this new step that she has taken. She said, "Even in a regular middle-class household in Mumbai and Delhi, periods are discussed using furtive gestures and awkward eye contact. Having periods is common to Meghan Markle, me and every other woman in the world," Taapsee Pannu Slams Kabir Singh Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga and the Trolls All at Once! Read Tweets.
Even today, buying a packet of the sanitary napkin is a matter of taboo in India. Taapsee has had her brush with the situation herself. She reveals, "For the longest time, I made my mother buy me sanitary pads because growing up even I thought it was not normal to carry it around openly and it had to be smuggled home. Today, I have the courage to tell the chemist not to wrap it up. The change will come when everyone starts doing this,"
Taapsee urges people to be more vocal about periods. She says that if we do not talk about periods openly, we might fail to address many health hazards for women.
On the work front, Taapsee was last seen in the thriller titled Game Over. She was also seen in the mystery-thriller Badla this year with Amitabh Bachchan. She is now gearing up for the release of her next film, Mission Mangal, in which she stars alongside Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha and Akshay Kumar. She will also be seen in another female-led drama, Saand Ki Aankh, this year.
