From the past few weeks, there has been a lot of talk surrounding CAA, NRC and NPR. Anti-CAA protests are taking place across the nation as students and citizens are taking to the streets. The Citizenship Amendment Act was met with strong criticism from many and university students from Jamia Millia Islamia, Aligarh, Jadavpur and many other institutions across the nation have conducted protests against the same. Currently, the situation in UP has gone slightly out of hand considering the protests took a violent turn and the police action taken against the protestors is being criticised by netizens. Even as A-list Bollywood stars are maintaining their silence, actress Swara Bhasker has been one of the rare ones making bold statements and even openly called out the actions of UP Police in a media interview. Swara Bhasker and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub Quote Their Film Raanjhanaa's Reference to Condemn Violence at Anti-CAA Protests in UP.
On Thursday, December 26, she was spotted holding a placard along with her Raanjhanaa co-star Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub referencing their film where she condemned the actions taken by UP police to control protestors. In an interview with a popular news outlet, Swara spoke about the grave situation in the state and slammed the actions of UP Police saying they were being violent towards not only people who were instigating violence, the identity of whom we don't know but also towards the common Muslim people.

In the same interview, Swara compared UP Police action being similar to that of rioters and when the journalist questioned her about the police retaliating towards the stone-pelting violence, Swara boldly asked, "Are we fighting a war on the border?" Anti-CAA Protests at Jamia Millia Islamia University: Swara Bhasker, Konkona Sen Sharma and Other Bollywood Celebs Come in Support of Students.
Swara has been among the few other celebrities in the industry who are raising their voice against the current situation in UP. Filmmakers Anurag Kashyap, Konkona Sen, Vikramaditya Motwane, Aparna Sen are among others who have appealed for an independent judicial probe into the violence against anti-CAA protesters in Uttar Pradesh.
