After Dostana, Tarun Mansukhani made his second film for Dharma Productions as Drive, starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Jacqueline Fernandes and Sapna Pabbi. The movie was rumoured to be the remake of the Hollywood film of the same name, but the claim was denied by the makers. But seems like the movie has been denied a release as well. Drive was supposed to open in theatres on Holi 2018. But it was delayed to 2019, for reasons best known to the production house. The movie also missed its June 2019 release date. And now, the latest update on Drive is that it has been officially removed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions from the release roster.
A quick look at Dharma Productions' website proves the fact. The site flaunts all of its upcoming releases, like Good News, Rannbhoomi, Bhoot, Brahmastra, Takht, Shershaah, Sooryavanshi, Dostana 2. But there is no mention of Drive anywhere. The movie's title used to be there under upcoming releases, but not any more. So, that settles it, Drive has been shelved by the production house. Is there hope that movie will land on streaming platforms?
Drive was said to have some never-seen-before high octane action. In fact, no compromise with the top-notch VFX was given for film's delays. We are sure fans would love to know the reason behind this decision of the production house. A report by Pinkvilla, earlier, suggested that makers have lost faith in Sushant as a bankable actor since his last release, Sonchirya was a flop at the box office. The report also suggested that Dharma is waiting to see what happens with Sushant starrer Chichore, directed by Dangal fame Nitesh Tiwari, and then see what to do with Drive.
In a very recent interview, Sushant was asked about the fate of drive. The actor said he was clueless. Though, he added, "By the way, I want to add something. I’m really happy about something about Drive. In two states, there were floods last year. All the money I got from Drive, I gave it away for that cause. So, if it doesn’t release, I’ll feel no guilt because I’ve already given away all that money for a good cause,"
Due to delay in Drive, it has been over a year since the audience saw Jacqueline Fernandez on the big screen. Her last release was Race 3 in June 2018.
