Suriya Cameo in ‘Sarfira’ Explained: Here’s What OG ‘Soorarai Pottru’ Star Is Upto in Akshay Kumar-Starrer (SPOILER ALERT)

Suriya's cameo in Sarfira is not his first foray into Bollywood. He had played the parallel lead in Ram Gopal Varma's Rakta Charitra 2 back in 2010.

Sarfira, the official Hindi remake of the 2020 acclaimed Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, has reached theatres on July 12. If the original had Suriya in the lead, then Akshay Kumar would step into his shoes in the Hindi remake. Both movies are directed by Sudha Kongara, while Paresh Rawal plays the antagonist in both films. Sarfira also stars Radhika Madan and Seema Biswas, and what's more, Suriya has a cameo in the remake. ‘Sarfira’ Movie Review: Radhika Madan Outshines Akshay Kumar in This Mawkish Remake of Suriya’s ‘Soorarai Pottru’.

The makers of Sarfira have never been coy about the Tamil superstar appearing in the movie. Suriya was already on board the film as a producer, and early reports mentioned he would make a special appearance. Even the trailer didn't hide his cameo and even hints when he would come by in the movie; if you had watched Soorarai Pottru, that one glimpse is enough to denote that Suriya would appear in the final portion of Sarfira.

ICYMI, Here's The Trailer of 'Sarfira':

So, what is Suriya doing in the film? Before we get into it, let's warn you that the below paragraphs contain MAJOR SPOILERS about Sarfira, so read ahead with caution if you haven't seen the movie and are planning to do so.

Suriya's Cameo in Mid-Credit Scene

Like Soorarai Pottru, the climax of Sarfira ends with Vir finding all his flights were completely booked (save one that lost its bookings due to a technical error) and had successful runs. Vir joyously celebrates this victory with his family members and friends on the airstrip after giving an earful to Paresh Goswami on the phone. The movie cuts to the credits, and we wonder where Suriya's cameo is.

Not to worry, though, as we get a mid-credit scene where we see how Vir's flights have been doing well. It is then we see Suriya here, looking dashing in a black suit, disembarking from one of these flights as a passenger. He then crosses paths with Vir on the airstrip, where they both exchange friendly glances. As Suriya's character walks ahead, he talks with his fellow passenger, a farmer, asking about his occupation (fulfilling Vir's prophecy of having farmers and businessmen share the same flight). He calls himself a businessman, to which Vir's friend clarifies, saying he is underselling himself, and Suriya's character is actually a big man who is 'King of Silk Trade', and he has invested lakhs in Vir's airlines; perhaps he is the one who gave the biggest donation to Vir's investment when the villagers were collecting money earlier in the film. Suriya and Jyotika Steal the Spotlight at ‘Sarfira’ Special Screening; Power Couple Strikes a Pose for the Paparazzi.

Suriya's character smiles and says that he is not a big man, but Vir is, for making air travel so affordable. The scene ends here. The character that Suriya plays in Sarfira was also there in the original, though it was not played by any big actor.

The video clip of the cameo has leaked online, which is nothing new in this age of smartphones.

Suriya's cameo in Sarfira is not his first foray into Bollywood. He had played the parallel lead in Ram Gopal Varma's Rakta Charitra 2 back in 2010. Another Tamil star, R Sarathkumar, also has a special appearance in Sarfira, playing Vir's former commanding officer in the Indian Air Force, who helps him later in a crucial juncture.
