Street Dancer 3D: From Varun Dhawan-Shraddha Kapoor’s Kiss to a Fight Sequence, These Scenes From the Trailer That Went Missing and Why! (SPOILER ALERT)
Street Dancer 3D is directed by Remo D'Souza. The movie stars Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor, Prabhu Deva, Nora Fatehi, Dharmesh Yelande, Aparshakti Khurana, Salman Yusuff Khan, Raghav Juyal, and Punit Pathak.
Street Dancer 3D is 146 minutes long. The movie, just like Remo D'Souza's previous ABCD movies, tries to pack a lot of stuff in the film that basically becomes the lean fat between the many dance sequences. Starring Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Dhawan in the lead, Street Dancer 3D is about two rival dance troupes in London trying to win the prestigious underground dance contest for different reasons. In its nearly two-and-a-half-hour runtime, Remo and his screenplaywright Tushar Hiranandani pack topics like NRI diaspora, illegal immigration, Indo-Pak rivalry, white supremacy, a Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar sibling track, a Bend It Like Beckham-inspired family track, a Dil Chahta Hai friendship fallout and so many things. So forgive the makers if you find out some crucial scenes in the trailer has gone glaringly missing in the movie.
Like the four below:
The Dance with the BSF Soldiers
In the trailer, there is one moment where Varun Dhawan is seen dancing with the BSF jawans at what is presumed to be Wagah border. There was also news that "Suno Gaur Se Duniya Walon", the track from Salman Khan's abandoned Dus, was to be featured in the film, which I think could have been played during this scene.
Anyway, neither the track is heard nor the above scene is played in the film. Sahej is shown being in India, during a flashback portion, but it was to attend a friend's wedding, and then become a reluctant vessel for four illegal immigrants. If this scene was used, it would have been a forced injection of patriotism, and the movie already has a few such scenes as it is.
The Fight Sequence
In the trailer, we see Varun Dhawan have a fight with a gora, who smashes something on the former's head, while the latter goes for an air-borne punch. Well, that gora happens to be Mac, the leader of the British dance troupe, Royals, who Sahej becomes an enthusiastic part of.
Later, when he defects to Inayat's The Rule Breakers in the semi-finals of Ground Zero, Sahej and Mac do have a heated argument, but they never come to fisticuffs. Street Dancer 3D Review: 13 WTF Moments in Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor’s Dance Film (SPOILER ALERT).
The Romantic Song Involving Varun and Shraddha
The trailer shows glimpses of a romantic track between Varun and Shraddha where they are seen dancing with each other. The movie not only dissolves this track, but also doesn't bother to get into making their characters get into a romantic relationship.
Sahej, instead, is shown in love with Bubu (Nora Fatehi). After their fallout over his defection, the movie hints at a romance blossoming between Sahej and Inayat, Shraddha's character, but doesn't get into detailing. With Bubu seen cheering for Sahej in the end, Remo leaves the love triangle open-ended for us to fill in the blanks.
The Kiss
In what we presume is the same deleted song, we also see Varun and Shraddha kiss a couple of times. Since the song isn't there, and the romance isn't developed, even the kisses go missing. Instead, the only kiss in the film is between Raghav Juyal and Caroline Wilde.
Go watch the movie, and then watch the below trailer to spot the missing scenes:
While it is strange that the makers added these scenes in the trailer only to cut them from the film, from a narrative point-of-view, it makes a lot of sense. The film is already bloated, and the romantic track, and the patriotic angle would only have added to the mess.
