In a major jolt to Indian cinema industry, Bollywood actress Sridevi passed away on February 24, 2018. The 54-year-old actress died of massive cardiac arrest in Dubai, where she had gone to attend nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding. According to reports, Sridevi passed away in her hotel room in the Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai, at 11pm on Saturday. Her mortal remains will be flown back from Dubai to Mumbai via a chartered flight. It was expected to arrive by Sunday evening, however, there is a delay due to forensics, post-mortem and other formalities as per procedure in United Arab Emirates. Though there are reports that say Sridevi’s funeral will be performed today, it will be only be confirmed once her mortal remains are flown back home.  As of now, there is a delay in doing so, since her family hasn't got the post-mortem report from the UAE officials.

Anil Ambani has sent an aircraft, a 13-seater private jet, (Embraer-135BJ) belonging to Reliance Transport & Travel Ltd to Dubai to bring back Sridevi's body to Mumbai. The funeral is expected to take place on Monday before whcih Sridevi's mortal remains will be kept at Bhagya Bungalow off JP Road next to Puspanjalli Society near Seven Bungalow Bus depot, Versova, Andheri (west), Mumbai.

Indian filmmaker and CBFC member, Ashoke Pandit tweeted the schedule of Sridevi’s last rites. He writes about the deceased actress’ funeral, Darshan of actress @SrideviBKapoor Ji’s mortal remains tom. at #BhagyaBungalow, earlier known as #VaswaniVilla. It’s the last bungalow in the lane next to Avinash Bldg, Versova. Time: 9 - 11:30am, Cremation at 12pm at Cremation Ground next to Pawan Hans, SV Road, Santacruz (W).”

Sridevi left for the heavenly abode leaving behind grieving family, friends and fan. The country is drowned in gloominess since the news of her death surfaced. Fans and followers had seen Sridevi leave for Dubai just a few days ago followed by her regal traditional avatar at Mohit Marwah’s lavish wedding ceremony. Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter Khushi Kapoor who had accompanied the actress in the family function had returned to India, but Sri stayed back to be with her sister Srilatha.

The actress who was last seen in 2017 thriller Mom reportedly had a fainting spell in her bathroom after which she was immediately rushed to Rashid Hospital in Dubai. However, such was the severity of the attack that all efforts to revive the star failed and Sridevi was declared dead on arrival. Sridevi’s mortal remain is kept Al Qusais police station morgue with Indian ambassador in UAE Navdeep Suri told reporters of providing every necessary aid to the family. He said, "We are in touch with the family and local authorities to provide all possible assistance."

Earlier, Boney Kapoor’s spokesperson informed the media about the last rites saying, “Late Sridevi Kapoor’s body will arrive in India tomorrow. We'll update you on further info as & when it’s available to us. Request you to kindly reach out to us on everything related to this & we urge you to please not call the family for info on the same.”

“Boney Kapoor, Jhanvi, Khushi & the entire Kapoor, Ayyappan and Marwah family is deeply bereaved and shocked with the untimely loss of #Sridevi Kapoor. They thank the entire media for their prayers, support and sensitivity during their time of grief,” the representative also thanked the media and fans in the moment of despair and grief.
