Abhishek Chaubey's latest directorial venture Sonchiriya is having a tough time sustaining itself at the box office. Despite garnering rave reviews and impressing the critics, the dacoit drama starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead witnessed low occupancy on day 1. The film ended up raking in Rs 1.20 crore on Friday and the situation was pretty much the same on day 2 as well. Sonchiriya hardly saw any growth in its collection as it minted just Rs 1.50 crore on Saturday, bringing its two-day to Rs 2.70 crore which is quite disappointing.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to the popular microblogging site Twitter a while back and announced the figures. He wrote, "#SonChiriya falls flat on Day 2... Minimal growth on Sat is not good news at all, seals the fate... Fri 1.20 cr, Sat 1.50 cr. Total: ₹ 2.70 cr. Further, a report in Boxofficeindia.com stated, "Sonchiriya is a disaster as it is mainly a metro multiplex film but it failed to grow on Saturday. The film may have a heartland base but has no audience there. Produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Sonchiriya also features Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey and Ashutosh Rana in important roles. The film hit the theatres on March 1 alongside Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon's rom-com Luka Chuppi. Unlike Chaubey's film, Luka Chuppi is faring well at the ticket windows and is likely to end week 1 at around Rs 30 crore. Apart from these two films, Total Dhamaal is also running in theatres and has already entered the Rs 100 crore club.
