Abhishek Chaubey's directorial venture Sonchiriya is finally out after garnering good buzz. And though the film has received rave reviews from the critics and the audience on social media, the dacoit drama has failed to get cash registers ringing at the box office. Starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar, Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey and Ashutosh Rana, the film released on March 1 and got off to a slow start as it witnessed very low occupancy during the morning shows. The same trend continued in the evening and also during night shows which obviously resulted in dull collections. Sonchiriya: 10 Standout Scenes in Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar and Manoj Bajpayee’s Dacoit Drama (SPOILER ALERT).

According to trade portal Boxofficeindia.comSonchiriya only managed to earn around Rs 1 crore on its opening day. The report on the website stated, "Sonchiriya is very dull as it collected just 1 crore nett on day one. There have been some great dacoit films in Hindi cinema but mostly in the 60's and 70's but this one will not be going anywhere and will not get an audience on any format." Box Office Report: Luka Chuppi Off to a Decent Start, Sonchiriya Witnesses Poor Opening.

Well, that's just sad news considering Sonchiriya looks like a well-made film which also has a stellar star cast. And this combination is rare to find especially in the high-on-action dacoit genre. At the same time, trade pundits do feel that the film will do decently at the ticket windows if the positive word of mouth catches on. So let's hope for the best. Along with Sonchiriya, Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon starrer Luka Chuppi also released on March 1 and got off to a superb start by earning Rs 8.01 crore on day 1.
