Actress and style icon Sonam Kapoor and businessman Anand Ahuja's wedding has now stirred up a controversy. According to a Tribune report, Sonam Kapoor and businessman Anand Ahuja, who got married in a traditional “Anand Karaj” ceremony held recently in Mumbai, have courted a controversy over violation of the Sikh “rehat maryada” (tenets). the report states that a certain religious group is offended with Anand not removing his “kalgi" while sitting in front of the Guru Granth Sahib.

Guru Granth Sahib was brought from the Golden Temple in Amritsar and former head priest of the Golden Temple Jaswinder Singh was seen sitting behind the holy scripture to bless Anand and Sonam. Also, present there were hazoori ragi and ardasia (the person who performs ardas). Former SGPC general secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur and former “Panj Pyaras” has accused that SGPC staffers overlooked that Anand's “kalgi” from turban was not removed in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib, which is a violation.

It is further reported that the group is now seeking Akal Takht's intervention and are demanding action against the SGPC staffers, as it is because of their negligence that this incident occurred. The Tribune report quoted Sukhdev Singh Bhaur saying, “It was a violation of Sikh tenets if anyone sits before Guru Granth Sahib with a kalgi on turban. This implies that the person is equating himself to the stature of Gurus."

Neither the Ahujas not the Kapoors have commented on this as of yet.
