Using a play on the Ramayana, which Kareena Kapoor's character Avni is staging in the film, alongside other visual references, the trailer heavily suggests that the plot is inspired by Valmiki's tale of Lord Ram and Sita Devi. The main characters all embody figures from the Ramayana, with one exception that has left netizens confused.

Ajay Devgn

Ajay Devgn’s Bajirao Singham is the Lord Ram of this story, tasked with rescuing his wife from the enemy’s “Lanka”, aided by his cop team, which represents his vanarsena.

Kareena Kapoor Khan

In the first conversation between Singham, his wife Avni, and their teenage son (how? They were just dating in the 2014 film Singham Returns), Avni hints at the inevitable mission where Singham will have to bring her back, just as Lord Ram rescued Sita. The whole trailer revolves around this plotline, where Singham must cross the sea to retrieve his beloved.

Arjun Kapoor

There’s no real confusion here: Arjun Kapoor’s character declares himself to be Raavan and is based in Sri Lanka.

Tiger Shroff 

Although Bajirao Singham doesn’t have a younger brother by blood, he gains a foster brother in the form of ACP Sathya, played by Tiger Shroff. The real question is why Tiger doesn’t have any dialogue in the trailer. Could his character be speech-impaired?

Ranveer Singh

The trailer clearly establishes Ranveer Singh’s cop Simmba as Lord Hanuman to Ajay Devgn’s Lord Ram. The bigger mystery is which Ramayana character his real-life spouse, Deepika Padukone, plays in the film.

Deepika Padukone

While most lead characters have confirmed Ramayana counterparts, there’s uncertainty about who Deepika Padukone’s ‘Lady Singham’, Shakti Shetty, symbolises. Her car stunt, featuring a tiger insignia, suggests she might represent Durga Mata. Some netizens speculate she could be a gender-swapped Vibhishana or Sugriva, while others believe she might be Trijata, the asura lady who befriended Sita during her captivity in Ashoka Vatika.

Akshay Kumar

At first glance, Akshay Kumar’s character seems to be a representation of Jatayu, the mythical bird who sacrificed his life trying to prevent Raavan from kidnapping Sita. However, this doesn’t quite fit, as Akshay’s Veer Sooryavanshi plays a key role in the climax. A closer look at Ramayana reveals another bird-like demigod who aids Lord Ram and Lakshman by giving them an antidote after being poisoned by Indrajit’s arrows. Similarly, Sooryavanshi comes to the heroes' rescue during the climax of Singham Again. This character could be Garuda, the eagle mount of Lord Vishnu, which fits since Lord Ram is an avatar of Vishnu.

Incidentally, Singham Again may still have a Jatayu figure after all...

Dayanand Shetty

Dayanand Shetty, best known for his role as Daya in CID, reprises his namesake character in Singham Again after having seen earlier in Singham Returns. In one scene from the trailer, Kareena Kapoor’s Avni yells, “Daya, darwaza tod!” (Daya, break the door!), and it appears he is rescuing her from being kidnapped, much like how Jatayu tried to save Sita from Raavan. Could this mean Daya doesn’t survive the events of Singham Again?

Jackie Shroff

Jackie Shroff’s Omar Hafeez was introduced as the antagonist in Sooryavanshi, but he didn’t meet his end in that film, with Singham warning him of his impending downfall. The trailer shows Singham capturing Hafeez in Kashmir, where Hafeez warns him of Arjun Kapoor’s maniacal villain. Some netizens speculate Hafeez could represent Ahiravan, one of Raavan’s brothers from some versions of the Ramayana. However, we believe Hafeez could be a gender-swapped version of Surpanakha, with his arrest mirroring the cutting off of Surpanakha’s nose in the epic.
