Shilpa Shetty Receives an Apology From Australian Airline After She Accused Them of Racism

Shilpa Shetty caused quite a stir on social media earlier, when she accused a Sydney airport's ground staff of racism, on her Instagram page. She pointed out one particular member of the ground staff who talked to her rudely.  "Their staff must be taught to be helpful and TONE can't change with preference to #COLOUR ," she wrote in a long scathing post that, of course, went viral immediately on the internet. Shilpa Shetty Faces Racism by Australia’s Qantas Airline Staff, Actress Hits Back Like a Boss!

The post did draw the concerned authority's attention, maybe after it was picked up by pretty much each and every media outlet in India. And seems like the airport authority has apologised to Shilpa. The actress has released a statement which reads as below:

I’ve said my piece and that’s where I want it to end..it was an unpleasant experience I encountered. Been an actor for far too long and garner a lot of attention ,will not make a loose statement for publicity , it’s not my style! If I made a statement it was with a lot of thought! .... The airline has apologised and am sure has done the needful.. Support staff being uncourteous is not acceptable hence expressed my displeasure at that.

Having said that I have many friends in Australia and have visited the country before where the experience was always good.

I've moved on and don’t like to mull over things in the past.

This was not Shilpa Shetty's first brush with racism on foreign shores. The actress had landed in an international controversy in December 2006 when she faced alleged racism on the reality show, Celebrity Big Brother. The actress had to stand unsavoury comments made by fellow contestants Jo O'Meara and Jade Goody. Shilpa gained widespread support from all corners of the world and even went on to win that season of the reality show.
