Sharmin Segal has been stirring the pot lately, and not just for her performance in the web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Netizens aimed not only at her acting but also at her off-screen persona, accusing her of being aloof and standoffish. More than her debut film Malaal, Sharminis trolled for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Netflix series Heeramandi, where her portrayal of Alamzeb received a mixed bag of reviews. If you somehow missed the drama, here’s the scoop: snippets from the web series pre-release event went viral, which shows Sharmin wasn’t exactly exchanging pleasantries with co-stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, and Sanjeeda Sheikh. Heeramandi: Influencer Hilariously Roasts Sharmin Segal’s Performance as Alam in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix Series In This Viral Reel (Watch Video).

Sharmin Talks About Receiving Criticism And Hate From Audience

Within a few months, Sharmin has received quite a lot of hate and trolling which are now focusing beyond her portrayal of Alamzeb. Reflecting on this, Segal commented, "I think it’s unfair to judge or label someone a bad, rude, or disrespectful person without knowing them. I think it’s unfair, and it bothers me in some ways. For me, a comment section cannot define a person as good or bad because those people do not know me.” She further remarked, “Things have been taken out of context [from the previous interviews]. It’s also been a learning experience for me, because now I feel I understand myself better about how I react to situations, and how sometimes the world just doesn't appreciate you for exactly who you are. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing at this point, but I'm just thinking 10 times before I say things. I know I can't be fixated on this because I can't let it define me." Nia Sharma, Jannat Zubair and Reem Shaikh Join Alamzeb Trend With Playful Instagram Video Teasing Heeramandi Actress Sharmin Segal – WATCH.

Sharmin Segal Calls Her Heeramandi Co-Actors 'Courageous' for Standing Up for Her

Sharmin didn't even step back to appreciate her co-actors. She said in the interview, “I see that my co-stars are courageous people to come out and talk in my support. It’s humbling to know that that’s how they feel about me. Some of them personally reached out to me as well, but to step in for me on public platforms, I just feel like I want to go and hug them.” She further explained, “I'm very thankful to my co-stars to be able to take that step and do it because what's happening is things are being taken out of context to the point where they're trying to make me look like a disrespectful person to my co-stars, or arrogant or rude, which is not the equation I've shared with any of them."

Sharmin recalled an interview where she jokingly called Aditi Rao Hydari 'a schoolgirl' in what was meant to be a light-hearted roast. However, media reports focused on Richa's response, portraying it as trolling and roasting. Sharmin felt this misrepresented their banter, stressing her close friendship with Aditi. She admitted the interview could have been less intense but lamented how the context of her remark was distorted. The incident highlighted the challenge of maintaining humour in public exchanges without it being misinterpreted.

Sharmin Clarifies Her Bond With Aditi Rao Hydari

Sharmin clarified her bond with Aditi, stating, “Aditi looks out for me. I look out for her. We support each other, both on and off set. She's been one of the most supportive people, checking in on me and ensuring I'm okay. I cherish her friendship. Media misrepresentations don't reflect our mutual respect.”

Segal acknowledged she's open to criticism about her Heeramandi performance but finds it hurtful when it turns into personal attacks, labelling her as rude, arrogant, or disrespectful by those who don't know her. She expressed sadness over this misrepresentation.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi, currently streaming on Netflix, has been greenlit for a second season, indicating its success and ongoing narrative appeal.
