It is the 79th birth anniversary of Shammi Kapoor. Bollywood industry has given us some gems that have been staying in our hearts forever. Shammi Kapoor aka Shamsher Raj Kapoor was born on 21 October 1931. He came into the industry just to be the star that he is and the choice of his films and the peculiarity of his roles is the proof of this. When most of the heroes were known to be the mute spectators as their female lead danced for them, it was Shammi who broke this barrier. He made a statement style and gave a birth to the concept of a ‘dancing hero’ that continues till date.

Although being the son of renowned actor Prithviraj Kapoor, his entry into the film industry was not a cake walk. After making an unsuccessful debut in 1953, his career gained momentum only in 1957 film Tumsa Nahi Dekha. He was then unstoppable with major hits in his pocket such as Dil Deke Dekho, Junglee, Kashmir Ki Kali, Teeseri Manzil, Bluff Master, Bramhachari, An Evening in Paris to name a few. His last on-screen appearance as an actor was in his grand-nephew’s film which was Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Rockstar’.
