Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s ambitious film ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ is constantly facing hurdles. After delays of schedules and monetary issues, the makers dropped KriArj Entertainment and welcomed Bhushan Kumar as the producer on board. Finally, as the film was all set to go on the floors, here comes a new road block. The writer of ‘Rustom’, Vipul Rawal filed a case of copyright infringement and unethical behavior with the Film Writers Association (FWA) against director Shree Narayan Singh and writer duo Siddharth-Garima Rawal. The writer informed in his complaint that he had already registered a story named ‘Roshini’ in 2009 and its final draft on 2016.
Vipul then made an agreement with KriArj Entertainment for the same story. After zeroing in actors Shahid and Shraddha for the film, the director brought on board new writers, citing the reason of script change. “The director wanted certain changes in the screenplay and for that, he decided to employ writers of his choice to make the modifications in my screenplay. The pre-production started and the dates for shooting were locked, “DNA quoted him saying.
After finding ‘From the writer and director of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ written on the first teaser, Vipul sent multiple mails to the makers to rectify it. “The director’s partner, Nitin Chandrachud, sent me a mail saying that the subject of my film (electricity) is in public domain and anyone can write on it. This, after the entire project, was set up on the basis of the screenplay written by me. They also mentioned that they will mention my credits only as ‘concept by’, which is totally unacceptable to me,” he adds.
Rohini Vakil, the writer’s lawyer stated that a legal notice has been sent to the makers and a public notice will be published soon. She also emphasized that the film is written by the Rustom writer and she will protect the rights of her client.
