Shah Rukh Khan's VFX team in Red Chillies has completed 12 years in the industry and it is a moment to be celebrated. King Khan has started this team with the sole aim of bringing world-class VFX to Bollywood and Indian cinema. After 12 years, the superstar admits that he still has miles to go before they can reach Hollywood-level effects (can't blame him if our budgets can't reach the levels of Hollywood movies). And yet, if Bollywood has to thank someone for how polished our special effects in movies are looking these day, you have to thank his Red Chillies VFX team for that.
You can deride his flawed superhero movie for all you want, but Ra.One does boast of some really amazing special effects. FAN may have found mixed reactions on its release, but the VFX work in changing his body is jaw-dropping. His team is also responsible for the VFX work in Hrithik Roshan's Krrish 3, and Anushka Sharma's Phillauri and Pari. Remembering the journey, Shah Rukh Khan had tweeted, "We started with 3 guys Keitan Harry & Arjun with a dream to Make it in India a v/fx company that gets our cinema ready for future. Still some way to go but Blue screen Dreams take a bit of time. So proud..."
On the occasion of the team completing 12 years in the industry, they had released a video that showcases some of their best works. While the usual culprits like Ra.One, FAN, Krrish 3, Pari, Phillauri are shown, there are some scenes that we are shocked to find were recreated using VFX. Here are seven such scenes.
What? That was no bear!
Movie: Shubh Mangal Saavdhan
PETA can heave a sigh of relief!
Red Chillies can move mountains!
Movie: My Name is Khan
Even though the scenery looked picturesque, it wasn't enough for Karan Johar who added a few more of nature's touches in there.
Not corridor, they should be wary of blue screens!
Movie: De Dana Dan
Remember that water-soaked climax of Priyadarshan's madcap comedy starring Akshay Kumar? It looks like it owes a lot to SRK's VFX team.
Dude, where's the plane?
Movie: Ittefaq
There was no place or lights as Akshaye Khanna was made to stare in complete black-ness in the climax of the thriller. Only you didn't notice it!
Mother nature, courtesy VFX!
Movie: Jab Harry Met Sejal
Does it bug you that SRK and Anushka Sharma's scenic train ride never left the studio?
Building bridges
Movie: Raees
Not only was that bridge built through VFX, even some of the ships were digitally added.
Playing with fire
Movie: Happy New Year
That's no flaming drink that Boman Irani is holding!
Here's the video,
Congrats Shah Rukh Khan and the entire VFX team of Red Chillies for this wonderful journey! All the best for your upcoming movie, Zero!
