One of the best things about Sanju was the friendship between Sanjay Dutt, played by Ranbir Kapoor, and his US-based friend Kamlesh aka Kamli, played by a scene-stealing Vicky Kaushal. From that scene where Dutt accosts Kamli at the hospital where his mother is in coma, their bond grows more beautiful and stronger as the movie progresses ahead. In fact, there is nothing wrong in saying that Sanju is as much a story of Dutt as his BFF.

While Dutt and his family have their true names mentioned in the film, Kamli was a fictional one. However, it is only after the release of the film, that we find out that director Rajkumar Hirani and co-writer Abhijat Joshi had based the character on Dutt's real-life friend, Paresh Ghelani. In case you need more validation on this, Paresh himself has shared a beautiful, touching note for his 'tiger' Sanjay Dutt after watching the movie.

In the post, Paresh reveals the emotions he had gone through after seeing their story unfold on the big screen, and thanks Dutt for making him a part of his journey. It is the final line that wins our hearts - 'You always have been, you are and you always will be the greatest friend, brother that anyone can ask for. Keep roarrrring....tiger!!'

Here's Paresh's post -

Wow! Don't say that note didn't touch your hearts? The fact that the friendship track in Sanju being inspired by real life is exactly why the movie has endeared itself to the public. BTW, Sanju has already grossed more than Rs 200 crore at the domestic box office, making it Ranbir Kapoor's biggest hit till date.
