In Sanju, both Ranbir Kapoor as Sanjay Dutt and Paresh Rawal as his father, question how media makes spicy headlines out of speculations on separate occasions. It feels funny since that movie makes digs at this attitude of the media, since it is this very attitude that is promoting the movie as well. Ever since the movie on Sanjay Dutt's controversial life was announced, there were so many rumours about it right from the casting, to the characters to what will be presented in the movie and what not.

Now that I have seen the movie, it is time to rest those rumours to rest. Before that, here's an insight about Sanju - it works better as a father-son drama than a biopic. Ranbir Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Vicky Kaushal are excellent here and Rajkumar Hirani's direction is good as always. But the movies serves Sanjay Dutt more than the audience, in terms of making him a victim of circumstances and skip some of the muddy parts of his life.

Coming back to the rumours, these five things you would not get to watch in Sanju, despite heavy rumours. Needless to say HUGE SPOILER ALERT!

Fact #1 - Karishma Tanna is not playing Madhuri Dixit

In fact, she has a small role in the movie where she plays Vicky Kaushal's Gujarati girlfriend Pinky, who cheats on him with Sanjay Dutt (Ranbir Kapoor). That's it! Interestingly, the whole scene is played humorously, and Kaushal's character doesn't make too much of a big deal out of it.

Fact #2 - Neither is Jim Sarbh playing Salman Khan

...or for the matter, Govinda too, as some other rumours went by. Sarbh plays Jimi Mistry, whom Dutt calls 'God', who plays one of his early friends and who tricks him into getting addicted to drugs. After Dutt finds out about his deception, he beats him black and blue. Later we find he has become a builder and is still seething about the beating.

Fact #3 - No mention of Dutt's previous marriages

A lot has been said about Dutt's first marriage to Richa Sharma, who later died of cancer. Also his second marriage to Rhea Pillai. For some reasons, Hirani feels they weren't important enough even for a single mention in the movie (even Dutt's elder daughter Trishala is non-existent in the world of Sanju). The only two women shown the movie who were in a serious relationship with Dutt are his first girlfriend, Ruby (Sonam Kapoor), and his current wife, Maanyata (Dia Mirza). Why even his sisters also get fleeting appearances.

Fact #4 - His romance with Maanyata is avoided

As we mentioned before, Sanju is more about Dutt's relationship with his father and his friendship with Kamli, his BFF. But if you expect Sanju to show how Sanjay Dutt met and married his current wife, you would be sorely disappointed. Maanyata in the movie is shown already married to Dutt with their two kids, and she is there to be a pillar of support for him.

Fact #5 - No in-depth exploration of Dutt's underworld connections

Sanju shows that Dutt did buy an AK-56 from gangster Abu Salem in 1993, but he had only bought it for the protection of his family and had no other connections with the gangster. Now, this is up to you whether you want to believe or not. Apart from that, the only gangster connection the movie has is a little episode involving Sayaji Shinde's don that ends up as a typical Hirani Gandhigiri moment. No...No Chota Shakeel here!
