Sanju might have become one of the biggest blockbusters of all time. The movie had grossed more than Rs 320 crore in three weeks, and is currently the sixth highest grossing Indian movie. Audiences are loving director Rajkumar Hirani's sugar-coated take on Sanjay Dutt's controversial life, along with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal's performances. However, there are many who feel Hirani was trying to whitewash Sanjay Dutt's image (though Dutt denied this) with the movie, portraying him more as a victim of circumstances. If you are one among those, you would be interested to know that there is another biopic being made in Dutt's life, that promises to the nearer to the 'truth'. And yes, there is a catch!
For the movie will be directed by the totally out-of-form Ram Gopal Varma. As per a report in Mumbai Mirror, RGV was disappointed with the fact that Sanju only touched upon Dutt's alleged connection with the underworld and his possession of AK-56 rifles in his house during the 1993 riots, in spite of having three guns of his own then.
A source close to the development told the paper, "That Dutt was doing drugs, was traumatised by his mother’s battle with cancer, had multiple flings, many of them one-night stands, is all well documented (by the film)." Then goes on to add on that, it refuses to clearly address the more controversial portions of Dutt's life, which RGV wants to rectify with his movie. The source continued, "Ramu has been meeting Sanjay’s associates and cops involved with the investigation as part of his research."
When the paper contacted RGV, he confirmed that he is indeed working on the movie, but refused to divulge more details about the project, including the lead star. Ram Gopal Varma had earlier directed Dutt in Daud and Department.
It remains to be seen if this move is RGV's new tactic to remain in news, or if there is really a movie in the offing. Also, we wonder how would Sanjay Dutt react to this story.
