Sanjay Leela Bhansali these days often gets praised for his craftsmanship in terms of set pieces, costumes, dance performances and larger-than-life execution of movies. Well, that's not entirely wrong but for us who have seen the transformation of a young new filmmaker into a magnum opus creator, Khamoshi: The Musical will always be his best work to date. Heeramandi First Look Out! Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Netflix Series Stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari Among Others (Watch Video).

Khamoshi The Musical is about Annie and her parents who are both deaf and mute. Annie is beautifully played by Manisha Koirala, while her parents are played by Nana Patekar and Seema Biswas. And then we have Salman Khan as Prince Charming Raj Kashyap who becomes Annie's anchor. There are reasons why this movie will always trump every movie that Bhansali makes and here are five of them.

#the story

One of the biggest reasons why even Bhansali won't be able to trump his creation here is that such stories are no longer told in Bollywood. Here the hero is the script and the main lead is a female. It's a story about a girl's struggle to live up to the demands of her parents with special needs and also has dreams of her own. Salman Khan was never the hero of the story and that's exactly why Khamoshi: The Musical will never get recreated.

#The name

Many of us, back in 1996, felt that Bhansali added 'The Musical' after Khamoshi is to distinguish it from the 1970 movie of the same name. It starred Waheeda Rehman, Rajesh Khanna and Dharmendra. But for Bhansali, it was different. He named it so because the film was structured around songs and music. Helen's character, who plays the piano and sings, had a great influence on Annie which made her a singer too. So there's a reason behind the word and isn't used for effects.

Plus, we feel this is Jatin-Lalit's best composition in their entire career as a composer duo. Yes, it's open to debate but we will stand our ground.

#the performances

Bhansali is surely one lucky filmmaker to have such stellar actors in his debut directorial. Nana Patekar as Joseph and Seema Biswas as Flavy are the best things to happen in this film. They elevate the movie to another level. Their scenes are so heartbreaking yet so warm. Whether it's a happy scene or a melancholic one, your eyes will always be moist. Manisha Koirala did a spectacular job here. Watch her conversing with her parents...she is so effortlessly using sign language and doing her monologue simultaneously. Did Rohit Shetty Just Confirm Ranveer Singh Is Doing Another Film With Sanjay Leela Bhansali? (Watch Video).

#Salman Khan - The actor

Salman Khan deserved a separate place on the list. Bhansali extracted his career's best performance in this film. The church scene where Salman tries to be Nana Patekar's voice is by far one of the best cinematic moments in Indian movie history.

#The simplicity

At the core, Khamoshi The Musical is a simple movie. No flashy outfits, no rich sets, no splash of grandeur just pure heart. In fact, the romance between Salman and Manisha doesn't have flamboyant gestures but cute and affectionate belongingness and support.  Such romance in Hindi movies is now dead!
