Salman Khan's Race 3, Sidharth Malhotra's Aiyaary - 5 Movies That Disappointed Us The Most in The First Half of 2018

2018 was not without its duds and disasters, both per box office as well as in getting critical acclaim.

Looking at the most disappointing movies in the first half of 2018

The first half of 2018 and now it's time to dissect the wins and cut the losses. Overall, it has been a great year for Bollywood till now when it comes to box office. We have had so many Rs 100 crore grossers till now, with some surprise entries in the club like Alia Bhatt's Raazi and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. The highest grossing movie of the year, Padmaavat, is the only entry in the Rs 300 crore club of 2018 and that too despite the fact that it has no Khans in them. Ranbir Kapoor's Sanju is all set to enter that club too going by its opening weekend collections.

But 2018 was not without its duds and disasters, both per box office as well as in getting critical acclaim. There are some movies that were so rubbish that we wondered what the makers thought before greenlighting such projects. As a recap of the six months that had gone by, let's look at the five biggest disappointments that came out in a theatre near you!

Aiyaary

Neeraj Pandey had a 100% success rate as a director with all his movies before 2018, hitting the bulls' eye at the box office. Then Aiyaary happened and all things came down crashing. This spy thriller turned out to be a laughable attempt with a convoluted plot, amateurish performances (save for Manoj Bajpayee) and a stretched narrative. It also added another flop in its lead star Sidharth Malhotra's career, a slump that he needs to break if he has to survive.

Welcome To New York

I have really no clue why Diljit Dosanjh, Sonakshi Sinha, Karan Johar, Lara Dutta, Riteish Deshmukh, Rana Daggubati agreed to make a fool of themselves in this silly excuse of a film. Calling it a film is a travesty in itself, as Welcome to New York is an inane two-hour IIFA advert with stupid cameos and a gimmicky 3D platform.

Hate Story 4

Unlike the other movies in the franchise, Hate Story 4 failed to set the box office on fire. Let's hope that the makers of this series take this as a sign of warning to not torment the audiences with any more sex-n-thrill sagas.

Nanu Ki Jaanu

It's a mystery why the decently talented Abhay Deol chose this travesty as his comeback movie after a gap of two years. This horror-comedy neither scares nor makes you laugh. And Patralekhaa's role is a mere cameo that ends up being an awful public service announcement on road safety rules.

Race 3

The supposedly biggest movie of the year, at least in the first half, also turned out to be its biggest disappointment. Not that we had any expectation from Race 3 thanks to those silly trailers. But Salman Khan's Eid release turned out to be such a hilariously awful movie that after the opening weekend blitzkrieg, the movie was soon booted out of theatres. Even Salman Khan's die-hard fans struggled hard to defend this movie.
