Bollywood actor Salman Khan who has been convicted in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case will be spending another night in jail tonight as the hearing of his bail plea has been reserved for tomorrow. Salman, along with Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam Kothari and Sonali Bendre were accused of killing two blackbucks in 1998 while shooting for Hum Saath Saath Hain in Rajasthan. A Jodhpur court announced Salman as guilty while the others walked out free.

Pronouncing the verdict in the two-decade-old case, the court yesterday convicted the actor and sentenced him to five years of imprisonment. A penalty of Rs. 10,000 was also levied on him. The actor is accused of killing two blackbucks in the Kankani village near Jodhpur in 1998 during the shooting of the film 'Hum Saath Saath Hain'. He was charged under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act and others under Section 51 read with Section 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code.

Jail superintendent Vikram Singh, while briefing the media on the celebrity inmate, said Khan was treated as a normal prisoner and no special treatment was given to him last night. He had simple wooden bed, a rug and a cooler in his cell, Singh said. “He (Khan) was given normal jail diet like Dal chapatti and the morning meal will include simple khichdi," he said. Sources, however, said the Bollywood icon did not eat the jail food.

Singh said that the actor had a blood pressure issue when he came inside the jail and the doctor of the prison dispensary checked him. His blood pressure was later declared normal.
